Hi everyone,
Yes, I'm a newbie to MP too... :)
I'm working with MCE 7 on my Win7 32 Bit platform, and wanted to change to Mediaportal.
I installed everything, configured it and started to app with the Green button on the MCE remote.
My HTPC is connected with a Cables Top Box via S-video cable. (to my Haupauge PVR150 MCE card)
I use this HTPC mainly to record TV programs, and sometimes connect my old VCR instead of my Cables Top Box, and transfer some tapes to Digital recordings.
For this I need 3 things: LiveTV, Channel changing with my MCE remote and a Blaster (on my Cables Top Box), updated TV Guide.

Problems:
NO LiveTV, so NO channel changing either.
Can't configure how to import the channel list from my XML file (EPG4Cable).

So basically, The program is useless at this time.
Can anyone please help me fix this?

    Hi and welcome Cheetah :)

Everything that you mentioned should be doable. Most people use the IRSS application and TVE3 Blaster plugin to achieve this. Here is a rough guide:

You'll have to manually create the channels... or maybe a smarter way would be to create one channel, export it, and then use that as a template to create a channel list that TV Server can understand and import. XML files can be edited in any text editor so it should just be a bit of copy and paste, changing the channel names and numbers.

You have the same setup as I do. I have two PVR150-MCE pci cards in my server. I do the blasting as illustrated in the previous reply.

For the Guide I use SchedulesDirect. I picked my channels using *their* interface, then set up MePo to do the import and had it automatically add the channels for me. That saved HOURS of fiddling.
