MediaPortal won't show up on Vista. (1 Viewer)

Windows Version: Windows Vista Home Basic SP1
CPU Type: Intel Pentium III Mobile 1,13 GHz
HDD: 60 GB
Memory: 512 mb
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 2 GO, 32 mb
Video Card Driver: "Dell 8100"
Sound Card: ESS maestro
Sound Card Driver: ESS Technology, Inc.
MPEG2 Video Codec: MPV Decoder Filer
MPEG2 Audio Codec: MPA Decoder Filer
h.264 Video Codec: N/A

When I double-click the Media Portal this appears:

"Switching to the reference rasterizer, a software device that implements the entire Direct3D feature set, but runs very slowly"
I click OK on that and this pops up:

"Warning: Nothing will be rendered.
The reference device was selected, but your computer only has a reduced-functionality reference device installed. Please check if your graphics card and drivers meet the minimum system requirements, a software device that implements the entire Direct3D feature set, but runs very slowly."
When I click OK on that Media Portal starts I think but it doesn't show anything at all. I just se my desktop, but Media Portal is in the tastmanager and seems to work.

It worked when I had XP installed on exactly the same computer it worked just fine! I guess it has something to do with my Nvidia Geforce 2 GO, but the strange thing is that it worked in XP.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

sry, but you hardware specs do really not fullfill the requirements for using MP,
I'd almost say they even don't allow to run Vista (nicely)

Vista Basic works as good (or better) as XP. But yeah I know, it's an old computer. But MP worked very good on both Windows XP Home and Windows XP MCE 2005

I have a small idea, could it be something with my drivers for the graphics card? I've only found drivers that are compitabe with Windows XP.

Highly likely, but as Vista hardware requirements are higher than xp's, why use Vista, and i'm totally amazed you ever could get MP to run on 32mb of memory.

Okay, I understand. So the fact is that I really can't run MP on Vista?
The reason for installing Vista was that I couldn't, in any way i tried, get my new MCE remote control working. Or more specific the "eHome Infrared Transceiver". I tested all the OSes I could fint att home. Windows XP Pro with SP3 in english, Windows XP Home in Swedish, Windows Media Center 2005 in english and at last Vista, where the remote worked!

So either I have to fix so I can run MP in Vista in some kind of way or I'll have to try the transceiver to work in XP I guess there's no way to upgrade the graphics card on my laptop?

Yes I'm also a bit amazed, but it actually worked very good, but with an external player! But I'm more amazed that Vista works this good!
