Recently I bought a Medion 8800. It seems to use an hybrid capture device, in computer management identified as Medion SAA7131.

I successfully installed Mediaportal, and I used the General S/W encoding card, identief as 713x BDA analog video capture.

Autotuning works fine, it can detect channels, but the small preview windows stays black. Within Mediaportal, I can flip through channels, but the screen also stays black. I though of the video codec, and tried the different codecs available in the television settings of MP, no luck.

What really is strange, is that I can record the black screen, and when I look back to those recording, I do have a correct image, although not always smooth.

Any idea on what this could be ?

Many thx, this would help me in throwing out my Cyberlink Powercinema.

DMAN,

I was really amazed how fast your response was, thx for this !

With your CVS build from https://www.team-mediaportal.de/: --> 03-01-2006--10-34 h (CET) , I got it working. I had to set the channels manually to PAL B and Belgium.

The biggest issue I have now is that I have no TV sound. When I play a film (MPEG), I do have sound !

I tried changing the audio mappings in the setup, but I do not know how (does this has got to do with it ?).

I am using analogue video using cable (so not via an antenna).

Any idea's ?

    Start the MediaPortal GUI
    Go to MyTV
Tune to the required channel wait for 10 seconds then exit MP.

Then post your MediaPortal.log file using http://mp.pastebin.com

I posted the content of the mediaportal.log.

I noticed in the log files that DirectX 9 needed to be installed. I just presumed that this comes with an updated Windows using Windows update. Anyway, I installed DirectX 9 (latest), rebooted, but still no sound coming from my analog TV tuner.

Another problem is that the image coming from my card is jirky (every second the image slows down and then continues again). But maybe first focus on the sound problem.

    greetz.

I have found why my TV audio wasn't working : stupid mistake ...
When you doubleclick on the volume icon in the taskbar, then go to options, then go to properties, the select mixerdevice 713x BDA Analog Audio Capture of the first tuner card : the volume was set to 0 by default.

Strange enough Powercinema didn't have the audio problem.

I am glad I can now focus on the video stutter, having solved my biggest problem (= no TV audio).

DMAN : thanks for adding the Medion Hybrid 7131 tuner card to MP. As it seems, MP is working also for the analog part of this card.

Video stutter can be many things, try without a antivirus checker turned on, and also install Nvidia Purevideo codec as a lot of people have success changing to this, I know my picture quality is sharper and CPU usage less on this codec. If no luck try the Intervideo Windvd codec.
Every pc has its own little peculiar likings for different codecs.

I already tried the NVIDIA Codec before, which is almost acceptable. It really gets unacceptable when I turn on the X10 remote in the setup. Then every second or so the TV image freezes a few microseconds.

To give you an idea :
    - X10 turned off : jitter (using the "!" when watching TV) = between 1 and 3
    - X 10 turned on : jitter = goes up to 50. (and many lost frames).

Haven't found this one yet in the forum. Do I need to post a new thread ?

I found a solution for my TV stutter : when I select (in the MP program) File->change device->change back buffer format to A8R8G8B8.

So my problem seemed related to Direct3D settings. The only problem is that when I restart MP, this settings is back to the original setting.
