Why are some people (refering to several previous threads) so hell bound on WPF?
    I'm just not getting it.

Can you please post the link to download the alpha??
    Thanks!

Sure no problems, I packaged up the latest release with the vision theme to mediafire.

    MeediOS.zip - Meedio, MeediOS

You will need .net 3.0 as well. It's probably best to post feedback on the Meedios.com forums though as I was just showing the progress made over here.

SVN is here if the media portal devs want to take a look

    https://meedios.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/meedios/MeediOS/

In terms of WPF vs Opensource WPF engine I think they both have advantages and disadvantages, its always worth a discussion of the design decisions projects take to achieve their goals. And since both meedios and media portal are open source, and more importantly plugin based it can only become better.

Of cource you can, but in that case MPII would be even a step backwards compared to MP1. Now we dont want that to happen do we? :)

Howso...? I'm assuming you mean its because you can't use your own codecs (or can you with vlc - i don't know)....

...by the way, I am only discussing this on the premise that you haven't already found a solution.....if you have....excellent....if not (question above ;))

How will calling an external application provide a seemless interface? That is a step backwards.

We have a solution. We have written our own WPF engine and don't need to use the MS one.

Ah right, I am with you now......i thought your WPF engine was simply built ontop of the microsoft one with a few extra standard mp controls to make it easier for people to develop skins and plugins......

I didn't mean use an external plugin, you can interface VLC into MP with .NET, its currently done with the VLC player plugin i believe.

Not being able to play DVDs in WPF is only a minor problem. The biggest problem is not being able to mix new and old. The (new) WPF stuff cannot be overlayed on top of (old) DirectShow stuff. This means no on-screen displays, etc.

MP's custom skinning engine sounds very cool indeed, and no doubt going to be better than WPF. But it was announced way after we started with wpf. There's nothing to stop us or anyone creating an alternate UI (since it's just a regular plugin) using your engine. I anticipate having LCD, VFD, Web and even GDI+ (for WM devices) UI plugins in the future. But tbh, I dont think the eye candy is the top concern for Meedio fans generally.
