Micro Glitches (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I have a strange one. I use the latest mediaportal with the latest StreamedMP skin with latest FFDshow filters. I find that every now and then, say every 10-15 minutes i get a micro glitch when playing back recorded tv. (the video freezes for a split second)

If the glitch happens and i rewind a bit, it will then glitch in the same spot, so the glitch was recorded into the file.

I don't get the glitches watching live tv, only when watching the recorded footage.

Do you have any ideas to what it may be?

Thanks a lot for the reply. I actually have the time shift on the C: Partition and all the recordings go on the Etorage partition.

Can you think of anything else that may cause it?

Personally always used the one drive for recording\timeshifting.

Would rather wear out a easily replaceable drive rather than the system one.

Mine are

E:\RecordedTV
E:\RecordedTV\Timeshift

you might want to see if anything is scanning the drive, any antivirus\antispyware, make sure they are configured to ignore that drive, remember M$ antispyware Windows Defender is enabled by default, unless you have disabled it altogether.

After that make sure no defrag is set for the drive.

Thanks for your advice. I disabled the service for MS win defender when i built pc. I have defrag set to 1am. I don't run any a/v or malware.

I will do what you say, i will change the time shift to the same partition as the recording folder and see how that goes and get back to you.

Hello again!

I think its worth trying to put both on your C: drive because there it runs smooth (just for checking). Check disk activity on E: when running there, slow disks could have problems even with SD TV.

Even when you are using an SSD? I have read stories about this should result in bad performance for the ssd after a while.. Bullshit?

Was a SSD even mentioned, no, if you cannot be civil be quiet.

SSD cells do have limits on the number of write-erase cycles they can do. SSDs are great because they are fast but unless you need the snappy performance I would say don't use them for a timeshift or recording drive - a 7200rpm drive is plenty fast enough. Of course SSDs with TRIM support and good wear leveling algorithms would last longer than those without them...

@ Paranoid Delusion: Only trying to help man, be relaxed.. :s He did not say he has an ssd, but maybe he has, and in that case it is good to know what mm1352000 said..

And in my case; I have an ssd, but why should I make a new topic as the discussion is there..
