I know that my solution is far away from present, but have you heard of ReactOS? (www.reactos.com). Maybe in future it would be possible to create a distribution based on Reactos to have a really free and open source HTPC.

yea i used to use myth tv its kinda cack compared to Media Portal made a distro that auto loaded it, and no.. i dont have .NET2 i forgot about that and is sp2 a requirement?
