I think the reason you are not getting any response is that most folks in the US have never figured out how to get it working and use the XMLTV plugin with MC2xml or zap2xml instead. I hesitate to suggest another direction but I thought I should let you know this is what I use…

If you can get it working please do post a "how to" with a good FAQ

Thank you for the comment. I definitely will post instructions if I get it working.

I do not mind trying a different direction if it seems likely to work. Given that my WebEPG file has the needed data in it, and given it is MP that is limiting the display of the data (presumably) to a roving 5 hour window, I wanted to ask a few more questions...

Would there be a difference between the content in the WebEPG.xml file and the xml files created when using the Zap2it or MC2 approaches?

Has MP changed its approach to using Zap2It data since 2006? I took MP on a test drive in 2006 and gave up after having similar problems getting the guide to work back then - At that time I was using Zap2It.

I do not know but you bring up a good point. Easy to make another tvguide.xml file with mc2xml and test it out. Do not go to any troublel automating it or getting selective with the channels, just run zap2xml or mc2xml make a tvguide file, load it in mediaportal and see if it solves your problem.

Yes, if you search the forums zap2it discontinued the service. Now you need this free scrapper program to make a tvguide.xml file which you can easily load into MP . Read the two links I posted before and look for my posts, there is lots of good detail about how to get it all working.

Winterscape - I tried your suggestion and mc2xml definitely produced a good xml file. That said, the root problem is the same whether using WebEPG or mc2xml. For whatever reason, MP only displays a roving 5 hour window with no way to scroll beyond it, regardless of the day it is on. If the time is 3:09, then MP will show 3:00 thru 8:00 for each of the 14 days. If the time is 8:04 pm, then MP will show 8-midnight.

Does anyone know how to solve this? I cannot use Media Portal to record shows as long as this problem remains. This is fundamental functionality.

O.K. well if you step back and look at this there are a ton of folks using MP1.02 with the xml plugin to get the EPG. I would suggest a clean install of 1.02, just use the xmltv plugin that is built into 1.02 to generate your tv guide. The only issues I have seen with the built in xmltv plugin have been related to the system time and date setting, not the plugin. Unless someone else has a better idea...

I am also not aware of any problem that would cause only 5 hours of data to display.

    1. Did you confirm that the xml file have more than 5 hours of data? Maybe zip and attach here.

    2. So at 12:00 you will see 12:00-17:00. Without updating the EPG, will it also show more data as time progress? Example at 14:00, will you see 14:00-19:00 without EPG data being touched?

    3. Silly silly question, sorry - to scroll EPG, you enter the tvguide where a few channels is displayed underneath each other with program data to the right next to each channel. You then use the right arrow to scroll the data. Right?

    4. On that same TVGuide screen, what happens when you select one of the channels (not programs, but channel in the left most column) and press OK? You should then see only data for that channel. What is the time frame then?

    5. Can you clear your log files and then reproduce your effort to see the EPG data. Post your exact steps that you followed and attach the full log files.

I was afraid of that. Given there was confusion upon the original installation with some very strange results, I have already re-installed once. The good news is I am getting bettter at it :) I'll search on how to do a full deinstall prior to taking this approach.

Re: 1 - Definitely there is data beyond only 5 hours. I would zip and attach but the following responses make it a moot point.

Re: 2 - Correct. It is a roving 5 hour window proving the data is there - it is just not being displayed by MP.

Re: 3 - INTERESTING - Apparently this was not a silly silly question. I had never tried that. I always used the mouse and clicked on the horizontal scroll arrows that are on the second line to the right of the scroll arrows that can be used to change the days.

Your suggested "right arrow" approach works - it scrolls for 14 days. While that is a bit embarassing and is probably clearly defined in the users manual, I never thought that the approach that I was using was incorrect (or was it?).

I have to ask - Are the scroll arrows that I used on line 2 supposed to limit the results to a 5 hour window or should they do the exact same thing as left/right arrows?

Re: 4 - It scrolls for that channel for the full data (14 days) using the up/down arrows.

Re: 5 - I'll hold off on posting this given the positive progress made in Re: 3.

Thank you very much. Please comment on my arrow scroll question.

I think you are referring to the buttons that define the width that is visible on screen. I thought about that earlier, but on my system, it is only up to a max of 3 hours. Not sure if that number can be different per skin. Don't think so. Maybe it's because I am using ForTheRecord.
Not sure what skin you are using, but on Blue3Wide, there is no scroll buttons for mouse users.
Maybe you can submit this as an improvement suggestion when the feature freeze is over. Although I do not know there's a lot of mouse users. Most will use remote.

    Thank you very much.
    Glad I could help :)

I too am using Blue3Wide (1.0.2) and you are right - I was misinterpeting the use of this scroll completely. Now that I know how it works, I'll be on the right track.

That said, I do think this skin needs a way to scroll using a mouse (although honestly once I get it all working, I too will be predominately using a remote). I noticed there is an icon that looks like an arrowhead pointing right after the program data for each channel, presumably to indicate that there is more data in the future, but when I hover over the arrowhead, the program related to the latest hour is selected. If that little arrow scrolled the data right, I think it would make things more intuitive. I'll suggest this at some point when the feature freeze is over.

Thank you for setting me straight. I have seen the light :)
