Movie files don't display (1 Viewer)

I can't get movies files from my HD to play properly from within MP. When I click on a file within the My Movies database, it either (1) crashes MP, or (2) launches the movie and plays the sound but does not display the movie (the screen from My Movies remains displayed). I've tried several MPEG-2 video decoders within the MP configuration, but these produce the same results. I've attached a log file when using the MPV decoder filter which tried to play the movie '21 grams' and locked up.

For what its worth, My TV is working fine using the MPV decoder but DVDs appear to cause the same error (although I haven't tested much). The movie files all play fine from Widows media player.

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid here but can't figure out what!

If they are crashing at load, try using ffdshow as audio codec and make sure ac3 is enabled in its config.

Try under MP config\Directshow filters, switching between vmr9 (with and without exclusive mode enabled) and evr, see if there is any difference.

Why not PDVD for mpeg codec, far superior to MPV, especially for giving correct aspect ratio's

if none of above work, run filmerit (link in sig) and check for codec errors.

Moving to EVR solved the issue. This was the first thing I tried. I also changed the codec to PDVD8 throughout, but this seems to cause My TV to crash (not 100% sure this is the cause). Anyway, movies and DVDs are playing fine. The only odd thing is that I see the windows task bar when a movie launches. Is it right that I don't have on-screen controls (pause, stop, ff, etc) when watching a movie? Hitting the back button gets my to the MyMovie page from which I can pause the movie, but I can't do this in full-screen mode.

By the way, my stupid mistake was having the config setup in simple mode: switching to export mode shows the direct filters tab plus other options from which I would probably have found a solution by trial and error...
