Movie folders

I too have the same problem with MP and movies in different folders. I have a file server which has 4 hard drives, and the HTPC box has another 3 hard drives. All together I have about 2,500 movie files (DivX format). Some movies are comprised of 2 files, so the actual number of movies is about 1,600 to 1,800. As you can imagine, navigating all those drives and folders in MP can be very time consuming. I was using Meedio, and it combined the movies from the different drives into one searchable list. If I had to pick one area of MP to improve - this would be it.

I tried using the datase feature in MP, but there are a couple of problems - first it is not perfect in its identification of the movies, so I have to manually update many of them. Second, it takes a VERY LONG time when you have as many movies as I have, not to mention TV shows.

So, my vote would go for adding the feature to duplicate what Meedio has, or to provide somthing similar.

MP has features that Meedio does not have and that makes it very attractive to me, so I hope hte powers=that-be decide to add this functionality to MP.

I don't have as many moves as you do but i have about 450. And i can't agree more with you. Scaning the moves takes a VERY LONG time. TOO LONG even. And the whorest bit is that you have to babysit the whole scaning process.
Something has to be done here.

My answer to this problem was simple. Since I have a boot drive and storage drives, all I did was add the other drive. Convert my storage drive that contained the movies to a "Dynamic Disk", and then setup the new storage drive as a dynamic disk.

Doing it this way allows you to "extend" the volume/share (yes, you can mount the dynamic disk as a shared folder) onto multiple drives transparently.

I can still see the problem with a LOT of movies in the same folder though. I've never used Meedio, but I kind of like the interface of the My Trailer's plugin. Where you can search based on the first letter of the title.

If that could be incorporated as a "stop-gap" until a more robust system was created and put in place it may make some people happy (it'd make me happy anyway  )

who knows...if two systems were developed, you could give the "end user" the choice.
