After upgrading to beta3 all my movies on DVD are gone.
Don't tell me that I have to add 100 DVD manually again.
I have a backup of the old db however. Has the format of the db changed between beta2 and 3, or can I simple use my old db?

Regards,
grubi.

Nothing has changed with "how we store" DVD information, but honestly they are stored in the exact same way normal movies are stored. It's possible the offline / removed media logic failed causing this, but this would surprise me quite a bit as we haven't changed this in a while. I will try to reproduce though, it should be easy enough if it's a universal problem. I suspect this is not universal though because with 400+ installations over a whole week, you are the first to report this.

In the mean time can you please generate debug log files from when you reproduced the issue? You will need to:

  1. Make sure debug logging is turned on.
  2. Shut down MediaPortal and the MediaPortal configuration screen.
  3. Restore your backed up database. This should be in a subfolder of the databases folder, the installer auto backs up your database when you upgrade.
  4. Restart the config and open the Moving Pictures config (you should still have Bets 3 installed).
  5. Verify that your DVDs are gone.
  6. Shut everything down.
  7. Post your movingpictures.log file here.

AW: Movies Gone After Upgrading!

Hi fforde.

Here is the log.
After restoring the db and relaunching MovPic configuration you can see all DVDs disappearing one after another from Movie Manager until all are gone.

You find the following log entries for all DVDs

Removing: R:\video_ts\video_ts.ifo (no import path)
Removing 'R:\video_ts\video_ts.ifo' and associated movie.

BTW: The warning I posted was simply to make others aware that the upgrade can potentially remove content from their movie database so that they ensure they have a valid backup before upgrading. If this is not a general issue feel free to remove my post from the forum.

Cheers grubi.

I understand the motivation of your post, I would just like to get more information before making some kind of announcement like that.

I will look at your logs, give me half an hour.

Okay, so first I can not reproduce your issue in the context of upgrading from Beta 2 to Beta 3. I Built a new database with Moving Pictures 1.0 Beta 2 with a few DVD movies added (actual physical disks). After upgrading to Beta 3 the DVD is still there, so I do not think this is related to this version change. So anyone else reading this, upgrading should be safe.

Grubi, after looking at your log files, it appears that Moving Pictures is dropping your movies because the DVD drive supposedly no longer exists. Did you recently change your hardware configuration? It looks like Moving Pictures thinks these DVDs should be coming from the R: drive, but your current DVD drive is E:. Is this accurate? If so I think it's highly likely this is the cause. A bug to be sure.

So does this sound accurate? Have you recently changed the drive letter of your DVD drive?

Sh**.
I have restored an image for testing the different EVR Presenter versions. This image was taken a few weeks ago. In between the firmware of the DVD drive was upgraded. Seems that this invalidated the drive letter assignment.

Conclusion: doing too may things in parallel is not a good idea.
Sorry for posting missleading information here. Will not happen again.

:sorry:

No worries grubi.

And just to be clear, when your drive letter changed, you did not lose any content correct? It only occurred when you restored this image with old paths?

Not sure if I understood you correctly.
If you change the drive letter of the DVD drive the next time you start Mov Pic configuration all DVDs get removed.
I again verified it by the following procedure:

1.) Ensure drive letter of DVD is correct.
2.) Upgrade from beta2 to beta3
3.) Wait until conversion is done.
4.) Verify that all DVDs are still there.
5.) Quit Mov Pic configuration
6.) Change drive letter of DVD drive
7.) Start Mov Pic config
8.) Verify that DVDs getting removed form db.

What I don't understand is why MovPic tries to remove orphaned movies on removable media?
This isn't posssible anyway so I still would leave alone those movies.

Regards,
grubi.
