Hi,
I am moving to a dual opteron Windows 7 Ultimate my old setup.

There are few questions I want to ask:

1) I have the drivers for the Hauppauge Cards but I don't have the original CD. Do I need a software MPEG-2 decoder/encoder ?
* If the answer is positive, does Cyberlink Powerdvd add this component ?

2) I have a Pinnacle PCTV 300i does it work with Mediaportal ?

3) I have purchased this Remote: http://www.onyougo.com%2Flc-power-rc1000mce---equipment-rc1000mce-remote-controls_pi539127&rct=j&q=LC-Power%2C%20RC1000MCE&ei=VA6bTr7xDILG-QbPgf2qBw&usg=AFQjCNHwODTtGx3kd3r16GQzH9Q6HgXfHA&sig2=mHtMjrcPtfBXMOzo8spJHg&cad=rja
is it compatible with MediaPortal ?

4) Is it possible to see DVD inside Mediaportal with windows 7 ?

5) Is it possible to see Blu-Ray disks inside Mediaportal with windows 7 ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hauppauge should work fine, not sure of the pinnacle, but found a couple of links to investigate.

Pinnacle PCTV drivers

hth

Thanks for the links.

Onto one page it is written that support is up to vista. Onto another page a Windows 7 32/64 bit compatibilty is declared.

When all the pieces of the new PC will be here I'll try.

However, I have just found a bunch of Hauppage HVR 1300 on internet for just 29EUR... this will save me the hassle of driver problems.

Note: you have not answered to my Codec question. Is Cyberlink PowerDVD codec sufficient to run mediaportal ?

mm is the best guy to answer about software encoders, these normally come with the tv software supplied by manufacturer, pretty sure he will see this thread and answer your question.

PDVD does not supply any encoders to my knowledge, it is purely playback.

    Hi GiuseppeC

    1) I have the drivers for the Hauppauge Cards but I don't have the original CD. Do I need a software MPEG-2 decoder/encoder ?
The HVR-1300 has a hardware encoder. The Nova S Plus would require a software encoder, but the analog input is not supported since it doesn't have an analog tuner (I have one of these cards myself). The 300i would require a software encoder, but since you have Hauppauge cards you should be able to download and use Hauppauge's SoftPVR software from -->here<--. Not the best encoder to use but it should at least work...

Having said that, if you can get cheap HVR-1300 cards then that would be *much* better than using software encoders. I *really* don't recommend cards that require software encoders if you want reliable analog TV/FM.

    * If the answer is positive, does Cyberlink Powerdvd add this component ?
No, PDVD only has decoders not encoders. You don't need to buy anything - there are ways to find free ones.

    2) I have a Pinnacle PCTV 300i does it work with Mediaportal ?
I *think* so. I make no guarantee though as I think at some point I remember helping somebody with this and it required a connection to the sound card - such cards are not supported (they won't work at all).

Sorry, I don't know - not my specialty.

    4) Is it possible to see DVD inside Mediaportal with windows 7 ?
    Yes. :)

    5) Is it possible to see Blu-Ray disks inside Mediaportal with windows 7 ?
    With the bdhandler plugin, yes.
