    Hi all,

I hope someone can enlighten me a bit because I see so many version numbers for Mediaportal and Mediaportal TV server my head starts spinning..

I have on my HTPC: Mediaportal 0.2.3... Referred to in this Forum as Mediaportal 1 (like this main topic "Mediaportal 1 Talk", right?)
Also I have Mediaportal TV server, sometimes also referred to as TVengine3, but here in this forum called "TV Server 1"

Now I see in the news that in about a week Mediaportal 1.0 RC1 will be released (Mediaportal 1.0 release candidate 1, right?) But in the forum I see that Mediaportal 2 is in development as well (ref main topic "Mediaportal 2"). Does this mean that Mediaportal 1.0 RC1 is the result of the development of Mediaportal 2?

This new MP 1.0 RC1 includes a TV server, also called TV server 1.0 RC1, is this also a development of Mediaportal 2 TV server?

So, my question is. Please post a message or wiki or whatever that explains the verision numbering policy, because it seems not to be really consistent at te moment.. Certainly when you are a new user, it is quite confusing to find your way (I have been searching the forum for quite some time before I found out that mediaportal 1 is actually Mediaportal 0.2.3..)

    Thanks!

    Lots

You are correct, there are so many version numbers floating around. MP1 is not in anyway an offspring from MP2.

MP2 will be a brand new MediaPortal.

    MP1RC1 is not MP2.

I am trying to build a document about revision numbering, but unfortunately, people join the community at different stages of name branding and become used to calling it the old name. I do agree that there should be some constraint put in place and start calling things one name and one name only.

    Just as a quick answer...

MP Version 0.2.3 starts with a zero... generally interpreted as Beta. 0.2.3. was a "stable beta"
MP 1.0 will be the Release version.

MP2 is a different project, it is the next-gen product.

TV-server leads many to confusion. Some historical background is needed.
    TV-server is also called TVE3. Or TV-Engine version 3.
The first version I remember also supported analog cards without hardware encryption (ah, those threads with "Bring back support for ..." ... memories !).
Then came the second version, that is currently shipped with MP 0.2.3., the internal TV-engine. Consider this TVE2 (please do not use that name. Confusion is big enough already).
And then came the TV-server that runs a separate service under your OS and was called TVE3 and TV-server at the same time.

If we now drop the TV-Engine naming convention, and simply look at this being the first stable version of TV server...

    Ok, thanks to you all..

That '0' is the beta version and 1.0 RC1 is the official released version, makes sense.

I am looking forward to the release of 1.0 RC1 !

    Thanks,

Will 1.0 offer anything over 0.2.3 apart from the new TV engine? In other words, for me as a a user who does not use the TV function would there be any advantage in upgrading to 1.0?
