MP 1.0 RC3 to 1.0.1 Upgrade Problem (1 Viewer)

I'm a long time user of MP and think it's great - just a couple of little bugs which it looks like are fixed in 1.0.1! Imagine my sheer delight when I noticed that the new update process would not require a clean install and I wouldn't lose my settings! However, I'm having difficulty in upgrading MP 1.0 RC3 to MP 1.0.1. On the install page I am unable to select the option for an update as it reports that I have MP 0.9.3 installed. It's very possible that I have at one time had this version installed but am definitely running RC3.

I apologize if this is answered elsewhere but I have been unable to find the answers:

1. Should the update work on RC3 or is it just the final version that it will run on? If the update needs the final version of MP 1.0, would I be better off just doing a backup of settings and doing a clean install of MP 1.0.1? If so could someone point me in the direction of a guide so that I don't lose my tv channels and recordings please?

2. If the update should work on RC3, does anyone know where the installer is picking up the errant version info from so that I can amend it? I can hopefully track it down using procman and regedit, but if someone knows off hand, then that would save me some time!

Any help would be very gratefully received!

As far as I know, the update works only from a clean 1.0. See also the news: For the first time you will be able to update an existing MediaPortal 1.0 installation to 1.0.1 without losing any user settings.
MEDIAPORTAL - free media center - MediaPortal 1.0.1 RELEASED!

You can export/import TV-Channels inside the TV-Server Configuration. Can't tell the exact spot now since I'm not near my machine, but it should be where the channels are listet.

The recordings should be able to re-import also somewhere inside the TV-Server config. Don't know for sure, since I use 4 the record, that has it own Database.

To export all current settings use TVServer Configuration. Click on "TV channels" and you will see a list of all current channels and at the bottom of this page, one of the many buttons is "export". This will save all current channel data and future scheduled recordings to a location of your choice.

The best thing to do with any recorded programmes is to go to the c:/program data/Team MediaPortal/TVServer folder. One of the folders in there is "recordings". Just drag this out onto your desktop - or anywhere else you like.

Do the new install. Go back to TVServer Configuration (under 1.0.1 you need to right click and run as administrator), TV Channels and use the "import button" This reloads channel data and schedules. You now need to re-map the channels to your card. This is done by expanding the TV Channels entry and choosing "mapping". Select the card you use and all the channel data you imported will be shown in the left hand panel. Select the ones you want and move them to the right hand panel. You're now back where you were.

For the recordings, first delete the new "Recordings" folder that was created in c:/program data/Team MediaPortal/TVServer folder by the new install - then drag the one you removed earlier back to this location. Restart TVServer Configuration, click on "Recording Settings" and the last tab will be "database import". All the prgrammes you re-inserted into the "recordings" folder will be listed here, just click the "import selected" and your recordings database will be rebuilt.

I've been doing this a lot lately and I know it all works!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the swift replies!

Sounds easy enough - I know I've done this countless times before, but forget the exact details and the instructions I write tend to get out of date!

Just one last question - should I uninstall my current 1.0 RC3 before installing a clean 1.0.1, or just install over the top of it.

I'll be sure to let you know how I get on in any case - thanks again,

Yes, you should do a complete uninstall.

Remember to remove the recordings folder from the c:/program data/Team MediaPortal/TVServer folder BEFORE you do the uninstall - otherwise you'll lose them all.

I couldn't actually find a "Recordings" folder under my <MP Home>\TvServer folder, so I decided to be brave/stupid, ignore all of your very helpful suggestions and hack the registry entry which contained the version number to 1.0.0 (somewhere in the local computer\uninstall... registry) and then just do an update to MP 1.0.1....

It worked pretty much straight away! Miracle! The only thing I needed to do was provide the login details for the database.

The only issue I'm experiencing now is the extremely high cpu and ram usage of mtn.exe - the thumbnail generator, but presumably this will subside.

Thanks again all the same,
