It will scale down nicely. But fontsizes will most likely be too small for you since 720p displays tend to be smaller.
It is possible to increase the fontsizes, but only up to a limited size until it breaks the layout.

I have a 720p TV as well, but I run my HTPC in 1080p and the TV accepts this just fine. You should try it!

To get better picture quality you really should be using 720 instead of 1080. Also from performance point of view it is just waste of resources to run on bigger than 1:1 display resolution.

Slighlty off topic, but AFAIK, you can't create resolutions that will output video @ 24fps other than 1080p, so to use Automatic Refresh Rate Changer for video playback with MediaPortal, I've decided to have everything running in 1080p. I run the GUI in 1080p @ 60hZ.

Just run MP in that resolution and it should take care of the rest. It will scale it down fine.
Does anyone provide there own compiled versions from the builds between the official alphas, betas and finals? I mean the I assume the git is updated daily and can be compiled by anyone with the ability to do so.
