MP 1.6 and subtitles configuration advice. (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

I've lately moved to MP 1.6 from 1.2.3, I was very pleased with the older version which used FFDshow for HD video especially because of the extremely configurable subs engine. I have some problems with eye sight and to watch subtitles in a comfortable way I need them to be in very good contrast to the background and yet not too bright.

The color I used with FFDshow was kind of goldish-bronze, good contrast and not too bright. Now with Lav filters I have to go back to MPC-HC subs engine which is very limited configuration vise from within the MP configurator. My solution for the moment is to edit manually mediaportal.xml and to enter the color code "FEE11B" for example and save the file.

Is there a better way of doing it? Without editing the XML file?

I've noticed that after editing the file and entering a color manually, when I open the MPC-HC subs configuration I have an additional color which is the one I've entered and it's marked as Custom, so there is an option for custom color but without a way on doing it? I understand that the MPC-HC subs module was written for MediaPortral long ago and no one is going to upgrade it but maybe you guys know of some elegant way to change it (the font color) more easily?

Many thanks in advance.

    Hello alltheway

    Maybe a dumb question... but is there some reason why it is not possible to use FFDShow in the same way as you did before?

    Not a dumb question at all, I thought the new concept of the latest version is in part the transition to LAV filters, if I choose to revert to FFDShow I might as well revert to MePo 1.2.3 which I like much better then the new one. A good point though:)

    @Edit: I've meant version 1.3.2

    Okay, I think your understanding is not right. The latest version makes it possible to get good codecs easily by making it easy to download, install and configure the LAV filters. However, you don't have to use the LAV filters if you don't want to. You would not be "reverting" if you choose to use the FFDShow filters. It is fine to have a preference for different filters. Configure MP the way you want it to be. :)

    Thanks mm135200,

    Well, I thought LAV filters produce an improved quality and performance, If this not absolutely the case then I'll install FFDShow.

    You can also use LAV codec and setupup ffdshow as post process filter :) and use it for subtitle / post processing etc. :)

    I can share my setting (i mean ffdshow as post-process setting) and you have to setup the subtitle part on ffdshow and select ffdshow as subtitle engine in mp :)

    I think the most important is : in codec section

    Can you please explain the first two, I got the third, but the others I don't see what the changes are.

    Thanks in advance.
