OK, long term MP supporter/user (and plugin maker - sometimes).

Just installed MP1.6 pre Release on clean Win7 32 Bit PC (reformat and from DVD), only have CCleaner and DriveImageXML on there and now MP1.6

In the TV Server config, scanned the TV channels fine, work and went to the EPG section and....

Where is the bit that says grab the EPG from this channel? I'm not dreaming this am I?

I used to use an xml grabber but then I binned Sky and (UK) FreeView/FreeSat worked fine grabbing from the EPG background and BBC1.

I have other "issues" with 1.6 (quite probably my not understanding something).

    Lastly.

I was reading some other posts and how the heck do you lot manage not to 'tell people where to go'?

Soem of them are terribly offensive. One said he was a developer of 15 years and x shoudln't be done.

I'm a professional developer for 25+ years, hobbyist before for 15 and I wouldn't even dream of believing that MP is anything other than a MAMMOTH task and project. No one person could ever know it all.

I also love the ones that say long live XBMC. How much live TV can you watch with that? Oh yes, none.

All of you, developers, testers, skin desingers, documenters and just the "plain ol' folk" keeping things ticking over.

You >>>ALL<<< have my admiration and respect.

Oh, I was >>>SO<<< tempted to title this post 'Where's the beef?' but I'm afraid that just shows how exceedingly old I am.

Hang on, Vasilich, that's a bit quick! (I'm at work now - don't tell the boss).

I normally leave the 'Store data' checkbox alone, that way I can scan channels I don't get.

I get the TV/Radio and Genre (THAT was a surprise!) tabs but wasn't there one that said grab the EPG >from< this channel.

I tried the bottom 'groups and visible' link and nothing got ticked.

I'll try a bit more when I get home (after all it's not like I spend all day on computers... Oh wait, yes I do, darn it! <grin>).

check my link above - wiki describes what you should see (and that area wasn't changed since 1.4 IIRC). Note that it is not a tab, but a branch of the navigation tree on the left side of SetupTV (to be exact - child node of DVB EPG node in the tree).

    OK, first thank you Vasilich.

Yes, it IS getting (some, not all) guide data but I still don't see how as I don't tell it to look at "such and such" a channel for the EPG.

Still, is is doing something and it is Pre Release, so I'm not complaining.

    Thank you one and all.

Screenshots of your configuration would be really helpful because right now what you're saying... well, it doesn't completely make sense to me. It seems like you're looking in the right places, so I don't understand where your confusion is coming from.

For what its worth, this is how I would configure the EPG grabber...

    1. In the "DVB EPG" section enable either or both the timeshifting and idle EPG grabbers. You have to enable one of these for EPG to be grabbed automatically.
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...figuration/TV-Server_Configuration/05_DVB_EPG

    2. Also in the "DVB EPG" section: untick "grab EPG only for channels on same transponder". This means that if EPG for all your channels is carried on one frequency/transponder/multiplex, TV Server will pick it all up.

    3. In the TV and/or radio EPG grabber subsections:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...ver_Configuration/05_DVB_EPG/1_TV_EPG_Grabber
...untick "store data only for selected channels". This means that TV Server will store data found for channels that you don't specifically grab from. In combination with (2), it means you can tick one channel (like the EPG Background Audio channel that you mentioned) and TV Server will get EPG for all your channels. It is exactly as you said:
I normally leave the 'Store data' checkbox alone, that way I can scan channels I don't get.

    4. Finally, also in the TV and radio EPG grabber subsections, tick the channel(s) that carry EPG. When you tick channels, that is telling TV Server to (as you said)...
...look at "such and such" a channel for the EPG.

    That's it. :)

I get the TV/Radio and Genre (THAT was a surprise!) tabs but wasn't there one that said grab the EPG >from< this channel.
The "TV Epg grabber" and "Radio Epg grabber" subsections are where you do that. There is a list of channels on the left hand side under the blurb "Grab EPG for these channels". The channels that you tick are the channels that TV Server grabs from. They also double as the channels that TV Server stores data for... unless you untick "store data only for selected channels" as recommended above.

I tried the bottom 'groups and visible' link and nothing got ticked.
This implies that none of your channels are in custom groups. I guess you're only using the default "All Channels" group. That's not a problem. You don't have to use the links.

Yowser, another reply and with details.

    Thank you.

I do have some guide data now, can't remember ever ticking the 'when idle' boxes before, but might well have done.

Sorry no screeshots, I didn't think they'd be that useful - consider me chastised.

The most odd thing is that I have (UK specific this bit) FreSat Guide Data channel, but it is in the Radio section (as was the EPG background that comes from Sky).

That is why I thought it would need to be told where to grab from.

As to your surmise 'only use All Channels' - give that man a kewpie doll. Absolutely correct.

I am just about to print out your instructions and very (stupidly) carefully go through them one by one.

Here's hoping that 1.6 proper doesn't do anything to make the export invalid <grin>!
