MP 1.8, MyFilms 6.1, aMPed 3.6.2: movies preview thumbs not always shown (1 Viewer)

I used a different approach. In the movie thumbs folder there are presently 34 movie subfolders. All of them have thums inside. In 16 of them, the last thumb shows as 0 Kb and its name's format is as follows: [movie name]_s.jpg. These are the movies for which no thumbnails are shown in MP. I give up.

That now really confuses me.
The thumbs, that are created from the movie content by MTN thumbnailer are created in Thumbs\MyFilms\MovieThumbs\<filmname> - and they have the movie name and the timestamp in the thumb name - there is no [movie name]_s.jpg in there -those are the cache files for the movie COVERS - and they should be in Thumbs\MyFilms\ThumbsCache\MyFilms_Movies. There are two per movie - one big thumb and one small, that has the "_s" added to the image file name ending.
So are we talking about different things?

No, we are talking about the same. Attached you'll find a file (0 kb) found in Thumbs\MyFilms\MovieThumbs\{filmname}. It is the last in a list of 13 thumb files. And this is a movie for which I don't get thumbs in MP's UI.

ok, understood - then we're back to the fact, that this is probably a leftover of the MTN process trying to create the movie thumbs - and to verify if that is a limitation, someone with such movie files locally available need to try / test the MTN process on the command line, if that one fails too or not.
However, as I mentioned earlier, MTN is based on older FFMPEG libraries and is known to fail especially on newer (HD) content. Unless anyone updates the files, there is nothing we can do about it - except to use a different library that allows the same features like MTN ...

Best method to test/reproduce in this case would be to post one of the movies files that results in a movie thumb error. Then Guzzi and I can add it to a test catalog and see if we get the same error and why.

Let's say the movie I post here is a backup copy of a DVD I own. Still, I wonder if posting a movie would be legal.

Good point! I thought about asking you for movie names in case I already have one of them, but test may not be accurate without the same media file.
Do you have any home movies, or a test media file that can duplicate the error?

I have no home movies
I think the best I can do in the present situation is upload my xml catalog. For these movies a get no thumbnails: # 88, 730, 1666, 1658, 1662, 1640, 390, 1643, 1644, 1049, 1645, 1646, 1660, 313, 1655. This is just a sample. Maybe you have one of them (same size, same bitrates and so on). Or maybe you can find the reason in the corresponding catalog entries.

Unfortunately not I have a few of them, but not matching codec/size/bitrates.
If you give me the #s for some where movie thumbnails work I can see if I can spot any difference in your catalog entries.

for these movies I do get thumbnails: 770, 954, 1220, 1631, 994, 1637.

I can't spot anything different either It was a long shot.

@Guzzi what does MP use now to generate video thumbs? Is there a way tano_grasa can check in MyVideos to see if movie thumbs are generated there? If they don't work there either, then at least we know it is an issue with media files.
