MediaPortal Version: 1.2.1
MediaPortal Skin: blue wide
Windows Version: 7 pro

I put my mpc to sleep in the middle of playign a movie(with gom player) that was started using the mp-tv series plugin. It has always had problems resuming from standby but this time when i hard rebooted it wouldn't strat up. Last time I had this issue it was because the mediaportal.exe.config file was empty...i replaced the contents from configuration.exe.config and it fixed it. i tried that this time and it didn't fix it. i can't even start configuration.exe....

reinstallonig didn't help, it seemed to just do a check that everything is there instead of overwriting...how do you repair an instsll of mp? how do I backup my settings from my plugins and configuration.exe if i have to uninstall and reinstall.

    Hi kjmc12

It looks like your MediaPortal.xml (the main MP config file) is totally borked. It is full of nothing except null characters. This can happen when a data that is in memory or the HDD write cache is not written to the HDD because of sudden power loss. In this case I would guess that was caused by the hard reset that you did. I would strongly advise you not to do that as it can cause serious problems for you. If you have ongoing problems with standby/resume then I advise you to try and find and resolve the causes else you will continue to experience issues like this.

Check C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal. If there is an automatic backup of the MediaPortal.xml file (it would be called MediaPortal.xml.bak) then you may be lucky. Copy and rename that file to MediaPortal.xml and MP *may* start.

reinstallonig didn't help, it seemed to just do a check that everything is there instead of overwriting...
Reinstalling may overwrite or delete important files so I wouldn't advise doing that again in the future until you have absolutely confirmed that there is no other way to recover the installation.

how do you repair an instsll of mp?
It really depends on the problem. Certainly reinstalling is not necessarily the solution. Best to ask for help here saying what happened and with logs like you've done and we can try to assist.

how do I backup my settings from my plugins and configuration.exe if i have to uninstall and reinstall.
The most important files for MediaPortal (ie. not including TV Server) are probably the MediaPortal.xml file and database and thumbs folders in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal. Note that is a hidden folder so you'll need to paste the path into the address bar in Windows Explorer, use the "user files" shortcut in the MediaPortal folders in your start menu, or enable viewing of hidden and system files to get there.

I got it starting again by replacing the backup of mediaportal.xml but the trick of pasting the contents of configuration.exe.config in the empty mediaportal.exe.config just starts up the configuration.exe when i click the mediaportal link...it worked before so how do I get a new mediaportal.exe.config? I ahve 1.2.1. thanks
