MP and NAS storage problems (1 Viewer)

I've installed media portal last week and it LOOKS great unfortunately when it access' any of my vidoes it takes on average to go from the folder menu to the films around 40 secs, then once the film is chosen it takes another 40 secs to play, then the same if you want to stop the film and go back to the film menu or the main menu.
With music it takes even longer and when I try playing a song it sometimes crash's?

The spec of my PC is:

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H Motherboard
AMD AM2 Athlon 64
2gb Memory
MicroATX Case
80gb SATA HDD
380w PSU
BlueRay/HD Combo Drive
1tb MyBook World Edition (NOT running Mionet)

I have around 350gb of films and 160gb of music all stored on a networked drive which I have now attached to a switch situated right next to my PC in attempt to speed up the connection (previously it was in another room hooked up to a home plug).

There seems to be no problems when your in a menu and MP itself boots up quickly it's just seems to be when you access the hard drive. I have Itunes which has no speed problems with music and when you access the hard drive in "My Computer", as I have it mapped, there are no speed issues when accessing the movie and music folders directly.

Any suggestions welcome its driving me mad

This behaivour seems to depend on what windos your system is running on. I had to use a network manager to get all drives again after suspend so MP could find the NAS drives. You may check the entries for the movies and music directories and if they directly point to the NAS or other network storage name or if windows has to resolve the names first. I mapped the network drive to a letter and use it in MP. Works perfectly.

Problems with Mybook

I have a problem with mybook world (NAS). When im in MP, and click a movie file located on the mybook, it seem to try to start the file, but ends after a few seconds as nothing happened.
Tried several ways to access the drive. Anyone?
The movie plays fine in windows, outside MP that is..

Hi,

I had mapped my NAS-Server with the pictures, mp3 and movies on "M" for multimdia and in the MP Configuration I have added this drive in Pictures, Music and Video with its own directory. I had no problems it took only 1-2 seconds to start anything. Also after a resume from suspend it works without any delay.

My network is complete Gigabit-Ethernet also my NAS-Server had Gigabit. But I think this could'n be the problem.

I would map a drive as said in the thread already,
If you do it via IP address it should be OK, but if you do it via name, ensure that your NAS's name and IP address are in the hosts file, (I assume you are not running an internal DNS server).

Also, how quick is it to load the files outside of MP ?

I run from a couple of NAS's with no problems, nor were the old NAS's I used
