This happens sometimes when going to the TV Codecs tab and other times going to the DVD Codecs tab in MP Config. I get an unhandled exception error, referring to a System Access Violation Exception: Attempted to read or write protected memory and DShowNET.Helper.FilterHelper.GetFilters

I tried disabling the Anti-Leak component of Outpost Security Suite, even though the rules in that are already set to allow all MP's components to do everything. It didn't help anyway.

    Hi doveman

Check your codecs with filmerit and see if there are any problems there. I saw what I think is an issue with a similar cause -->here<-- and it turned out to be bad system configuration.

    Hi

I can't seem to run filmerit. Well I can, but it never shows a window, just appears on my taskbar!

Then there is something else accessing the registry, check MP or config are really closed in task manager.

Not sure what was locking it, as it still wasn't working even after killing MP/TV Service but it was OK after rebooting. Thanks

Whatever had locked it, then would have affected playback in MP, directshow would have had the same problem as filmerit :(

Well TV was still working fine, which uses Cyberlink PDVD11 and ffdshow audio, whatever that means.

Why would you want to do that, VLC quality is not great, if you have something specifically wrong, please start a new thread in the newcomers forum with as much detail as possible.
