MP crashes because of intervideo codec (1 Viewer)

MP crashed three times in a row when I started watching a program that was recording at the time. MP test tool poped up all three times, but I had to try again as my wife and I had planned to see the program. After the third crash I had to leave a log. The picture froze, with the audio continuing, and when I pressed back (esc), it crashed to windows desktop.

After changing back from Intervideo codec to mpv, all worked fine, so it's apparently a incompatibility issue. I was trying the codec from WinDVD 9+BR, bought to watch HD-DVDs.

So I'm back to mpv.

I don't know how interesting this is, but here it is, anyway.

Hopefully someone else can confirm this. In the meantime I'd recommend you to use AVIVO-codecs that you can DL for free @ ATi. (Only video - use FFDSHow or MPA for audio). It supports DXVA and is quite good IMO.

Thanks Spragle! I can't find the avivo-codecs when i installed them, though, not in MP and not in graphedit. Which dll should it use?

Yes, I found the avivo encoderpack and xcode, installed it, and thought it was good, but alas, I didn't find anything named avivo under the MP-encoder-choices. I think either something went wron when I installed, or perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places. In the installation folder for the xcodefile (c:\ati\support\8-4_xp32_xcode_61006\avivo) there's a filt called avivo.dll, I thought perhaps this file could be the driver file, but it wasn't in use under any of the various ATI-codecs/demuxers/etc listed under directshowfilters in graphedit. When I selected modify under the avivo-specific installation it said click on an icon to change how the feature is installed, but there is no icons.

I don't know, perhaps there is some elementary error in the setup or something. the x1600pro card shouls support dxva, right? I think so.

Anyway, have a nice day tomorrow, and eat lots of ice! I've broken my leg, but i can come in here if I'd like to se a parade with norwegian flags!

I had the same problem using the Nvidia codecs for TV. When I was watching a program and then decided to record it, MP would crash pretty much straight away. Not so with the MPV/MPA codecs, so I'm using those for TV now. This was with MP 1.0 RC1.

The x1600 does support DXVA. I do not understand why the AVIVO codecs aren't an option. I can choose this with X1250 (IGP) and HD3450 (haven't tried my 9600pro as it is not supported). The decoder (not encoder ) is called something like "ATi MPEG Video decoder" (there are others that can be choosen), not AVIVO.
