I have installed a ATI Theater 550 PCI TV Card. This card is an analog card.
Originally I installed SageTV and had the TV function working properly. ALL of my cable provider's channels were accessible.
Then I found out that SageTV is not freeware. I googled TV tuner software and found MP.
SageTV has been uninstalled and MP is now installed.
For 2 days I've been trying to get MP set up and it always crashes at the same point.
The TV server Config works with no problem. my ATI card is recognized and the scan does find all of the cable channels.
When he MP Config is chosen it will start up then crash giving a windows error "clr20r3, configuration.exe, system.argumentexception" error message. if this error message is closed the config tool will close. If the message is not closed the config tool can be used and confirmed after changes are made by clicking the OK button. Once the OK is clicked the tool closes normally and the error message remains. After the error message is closed and the MP config tool is reopened the error still pops up however the tool can be accessed to confirm that changes were in fact accepted as would be expected if no error were present.
When the MP app is clicked it starts in full screen mode and goes through several loading messages. Once it gets to loading plugins if pauses for a few seconds then crashes. MP closes and no error message is provided at that point.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ATI drivers and MP software several times trying different subtle MP config changes. All to no avail.
As of this writing I have not been able to successfully get MP to start much less watch TV on my PC using it.
I have ensured that XP SP3 updates are current as well as the other items mentioned in the forum tips.
I'm baffled. When SageTV will work I dont understand why I can not get MP to work.
Thanks for any assistance and tips that you may have.
After further scrutiny of the logs I have decided the issue is/was arial fonts.
New fonts were downloaded and installed on my PC.
MP is now functioning on my PC.
Now for the next battle, figuring out how to get the TV guide function to work.
