MP crashes when starting tv (worked until i changed audio device) (1 Viewer)

No, we only have MPEG2 in Australia, and our whole DVB system is slightly different to anywhere else - and a slight differences in the same broadcaster depending on location(Bad political advice was the cause of this mess). I suspect Australian's are due for a lot of hiccups with the current MP related to the replacement of the TS filters used and the updated Quartz.dll related MS update(How enabling avi files of 500GB helps MP is beyond me?).

In my case using the internal TV engine I can no longer view any live TV unless it is being timeshifted, and even then on channel change the TS handling becomes confused and will jump to different spots in the timeshift buffer. Using a client and server setup has the same issue with seeking within the timeshift buffer - The same server can record 6 channels at once using Web Scheduler perfectly and plays back as many as u like(with TSFileSource) at the same time with a max 6% cpu hit.

The install also seems to rip out all support for Bear's original TSFileSource filter developed for our particular DVB issues in Australia, and makes it impossible to register properly again. From memory the previous MP TS handling was based on this same filter. This was the only source filter available that would play recordings from all channels perfectly - Haali and HDTVPump both will not play at least one channel. It's going to take a bit of work to get a good outcome for Aussies mainly due to the fact that the developers here seem to not believe these issues exist.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my actual live TV issue. Channels show video, and most of teh time the audio starts, slightly out of sync then within 1 to 5 seconds the audio starts breaking up and then eventually stops. Sometimes on channel change there is no video or audio and just a blank screen - changing to another channel and back again usually gets the picture back and then the audio issue happens.

Biggest reason is that we dont have any developer that would have access (and therefore natural interest) on the Australian soil.

Basicly its not related to that update at all, but the quatrz.dll is providing many different "services" for directshow (VMR9 being one). So such update is "cumulative" and contains other fixes as well (and we are interested in those other ones, bot the 500GB one).

No offence to Bear, but his filter code is much too complex to be maintained by someone else who has written it. Also Bear did disappear / take break from developing the TSFileSource filter. TSFileSource contains numerous issues when it comes to the timeshifting (sorry cannot remember all those anymore, but at least seeking and subtitle support were one of those... and something h264 related...).

So the only correct way was to stop using the TSFileSource and write a good (and much easier to maintain) directshow filter targeted to our use case.

Whaty audio codec you are using? Cyberlink maybe?

Yes MP is international and therefore is bound to be more suited to certain tried and true regions.

Re Quartz.dll. Yep I understood there would be other function updates in the later version. But is there actually any new function being called from the libraries that is not in the older versions. Reason being I have always had more success with out applying the various updates and fixes, including running XP SP2 instead of SP3. I really think I am going to have to look at compiling my own version without all of the file checks, as long as MP is not dependent on new functions in the updates. At least then I would have the options of testing different versions.

I have never really looked into the developer threads for a list of actual info on the various updates(Searching has never turned up anything). Is there lists of dependencies somewhere, or is it a matter of going through the code and reverse engineering? That would be beyond me tho. A list of MP installed filters etc would also be very handy. MP uninstall seems to leave filters registered - I do not have the names on hand, but have them noted. Is there a full manual MP uninstall list somewhere that we can use to confirm full removal? A list of MP forced filters/graphs(MP original and third party) may also be handy for users.

I use Zoomplayer with manual graphs for all testing and media playback on my desktops.

Re TSFilleSource. On my desktop I had Bear's version installed, but when installing MP1 it ripped out all support for it from windows and therefore I could no longer play TS recordings thru Directshow apps. HDTVPump was the second best, and would only refuse to play one broadcasters HD channel, but now it to has issues with other channels. Re registering seemed to work, but once I was forced to update the quartz.dll at MP startup, it was again broken and will no longer work properly. Could MP actually be the reason for this and is there some sort of config to windows to stop the MP TSfilesource version from interfering with the new version? There seems to be all sorts of Directshow problems now and not only related TS. Uninstalling MP and what updates I can has not helped TSFilesource function correctly.

This is a real pain as this machine has been stable for 7 years. I have setup TV server on one of my servers and needed a client(Main HTPC is standalone install and no way I was going to risk having a problem there and get murdered by my wife) so I bit the bullet and updated to SP3 and the various updates I was forced to make during the MP1 install. I am about to commence migrating to a fresh install on new hardware(wouldn't have contemplated the install otherwise), so it is not the end of the world, but having this PC broken is still a real pain.

Anyway, to the current TV issue. Codec is AC3Filter. Under RC2 and RC4 I am pretty sure I ended up with the best result using Cyberlink for TV audio though. The HTPC machine basically only has MP and the Leadtek TV app Winfast which works perfectly. RC4 was working much better on live TV - but timeshifting did not fix sync issues on the channels that had issues, like it does with V1. I am using nvidia for video and am pretty sure I would have tried nvidia audio.

I was just checking my MP config and noted I had not installed a H264 codec on the machine yet. clinetebb mentions he needed a codec installed for H264 even tho it was not being used. Is there some sort of requirement for a H264 filter even if it is not to be used?
