My computer crashed while MP was running. When I try to start MP now I get the message that MP crashed unexpectedly and the MP test tool starts. But at step1 I can't push the button, it's grey. When I launch the test tool out of the MP directory step 1 does workt. But even after that, when I try to lauch MP it get the same message? Can anyone help me, I don't know what happened.

And if there's no other solution then to install MP again, is there a way to save the database details? It took me a very long time to get all the right information in my own video database and I would really hate to see that I have to do that all over again. (edit: I read in some other post on this forum that you can copy the database and the tumbs. If I put them back in the same folders, I guess I'll still have the same database after re-install??

So I really hope someone can help me. Thank you in advance!!

A desperate MP-lover.

    First try deleting mediaportal.xml, this is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Appdata\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

You will need to reconfigure MP, but all your databases\thumbs will be intact.

If above does not work :(

Does TVServer work, or do you not use TV, uninstall and say no to removing database.

If not using tv, then uninstall Mediaportal from control panel, select do not delete settings.

Reboot, then reinstall, link will tell you how to restore your databases\thumbs folders from the mediaportal backup of your old install.

Thanks for your reply! I hoped your first solution would work. But unfortunately, it didn't ;-) When I deleted the file (there was also a file named mediaportal.xml.bak) and tried to start MP again, I got the same error, but now MP setup started automatically. Does this mean anything and is there something else I could try? Or is the only sollution for me right now your second option? Btw, I don't use TVserver, only movies and music.

ps. is there any way I can see which version of MP is running on my computer?

You need to reconfigure your settings in MP config, folder locations\codecs etc.

If above does not work, one of your databases may be corrupt, just rename them one at a time .old and try restarting MP.

I reconfigered MP (most items were still the same as before) but it still doesn't work.

I jusy have to rename, for example, VideoDatabaseV5.db3, into VideoDatabaseV5.old and try to start MP? And if that doesn't work change it back and then change, for example, FolderDatabase3.db3, into FolderDatabase3.old and try to start MP again?

Btw, this is the error log. Maybe it will help:

Since all of the above didn't work I decided to re-installe MP. Deleting in control panel didn't work, it didn't start to uninstall, but to install. Then I tried to use the MP unistall file, but that didn't work either. It said it couldn't find the uninstall file. And I also couldn't find it in the MP file. Then I just donwloaded MP 1.0 RC2 and installed this. Afther the installation had been completed, MP works again. I copied my thumbs and database files from my old installation to the new folders and it looks like everything is the same again. Will it give any problems that I didn't really uninstall my old version?

It seems like the MP configuration has less " chapters" than I had before. I think I had version 0.2.3.0 before. When I looked under the heading "General" I had a lot more options. Als under the heading "Movies". For example, I could select some external filters or something like that. Do I have the right MP version now? Is it normal that I have less options that I can change compared to my old MP version??
