Hi all... I hope someone can help me out here..

I am running ATI Cat 8.10 with HD2600Pro PCI-E card on Windows XP SP3 and MP RC3 .

I setup my display in Catalyst to 1280x720 @ 50Hz.. So far so good.

If i play a media file with ANY media player all is good... But the minute i play a media file with MP ( be it TV or avi. or .mkv. or .mpg ), the refresh rate in Catalyst reverts to 60Hz... nothing i do fixes it !! It's only MP which suffers from this...

Has anyone else experienced this ? If so, how did you fix it ?

    thank you

Hi vvulture, are you saying that MP changes the value in Catalyst from 50hz to 60hz by itself, or are you saying that while using MP the refresh rate is 60Hz but windows are still running at 50Hz? Sorry for the confusion, but I use the same drivers as you and have never experienced this....but would like to test it and give you my results...

    Thanks for the reply Geov...

    Here's what i do :
    - Set refresh rate in catalyst to 50Hz
    - Start MP and play video file ( any will do )
    - Exit MP
    - Refresh rate in catalyst now 60Hz

If i play the same video file(s) directly in WMP or any other media player, the refresh rate stays at 50Hz and the picture is much better ( no strobing etc... ).

    cheers

I have a similar experience. When MP plays Fullscreen TV always switch to 60 HZ. But i dont have a modification of Catalyst.
I work with profiles and HDTV resolutions enabled in 8.10.

Do you shutdown PC with exit of MP?

Thanks Domarkas for taking the time...

I am not sure what you mean by " modification of catalyst ", but i have made no modifications to my installation of catalyst.

I do not work with profiles as i have no need to, and i also have HDTV resolutions enabled in catalyst.

To turn off my HTPC, i press the power button on the front of the machine which goes thru the normal windows shutdown procedure.

    Cheers

    I see a big difference... 50hz much smoother playback ( for 25 & 50hz content that is... )

    cheers
