MP freeze while listening to mkv (1 Viewer)

I know there is a lot of thread about freezing MP while listening to video, but all of them seems to be a problem from the begining of the playback, my problem is when I'm listening to the video and suddently the video and the sound freeze, but keep reading it gets better.

When the video is frozen, not black, frozen on a still image, I can still press stop on my remote and ear the button press sound and evey button I press I ear the sound, indicating that the PC isn't in heat protection mode. I checked everytime if it was the video card that was the problem and the heat sink is not hotter that usual, that's not the problem.

I connect to my HTPC using RDP and logging with an other administrator account (is Windows XP by the way) and the process of MP is using 50% of the CPU or if you prefer 100% of one core. I can kill the process, then go to my tv relog to the usual account we use to start MP and I can restart MP and everything is working again.

This always happen when I listen to MKV file, it never happen when I listen to AVI, we can listen to 10 avi (small resolution) and then start listening to one MKV (720p) and can't finish the movie because it freeze, I usually hard reset the computer and start back where is freezed, I have to have pressed the stop button for the viewing position be remembered, if I reboot without having pressed the stop, MP will restart the video from the begining. When it's freezed MP is still working, only the video display is messed up...

If you wonder if there is a log of this, there is absolutely nothing in MP logs about that event, all I see is that the video has been started and later that MP has been started (due to the restart).

Okay, here some config information:
Codec used: ffdshow with Matroska Splitter and DirectVobSub (sometimes)
CPU: AMD 4200+ (DualCore drivers and Optimizer installed)
RAM: 1024 MB
Video: nVidia FX5200 (latest drivers)
Resolution: 1366 x 768 (using VGA port of my TV)

I recently started experiencing the same thing.
I haven't tried to remote dekstop into mine, but it seems to unfreeze itself after 3-5 minutes or so, like nothing happened! Trying to start task manager, explorer or which ever other application doesn't work during that time. Only once it's unfrozen do all the apps open, so I can't tell what's going on.

I'm on Vista 64 with RC3 using ATI 8.10. Problem is also just on MKV files and the ones I experienced this problem with aren't even HD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I apparently found my problem, it was my network card, I just changed from the nVidia network card to the realtek (I have two network card on the mother board) and the problem is now gone!

When it was frozen MP was using 100% CPU.

Interesting, were you streaming over the network when it froze, or did the driver just cause your system to freeze?
I know I ran a Windows Update the day before and one of the updates was the NIC driver, mine is a Marvel.
I haven't tried HD MKV files yet, maybe it's only with the ones I've been watching (anime with subs).

I'll try and narrow it down tonight.

Sorry for the late reply, but I was not streaming but more reading the file over the network using a network share.

I don't know if it was the driver or anything, I just changed the NIC and now my MP never frozed since then.

I actually tried just about everything. I finally gave up and went back to Windows XP.
That's now the second attempt at running Vista and both times got fed up and downgraded to XP
