MP hangs on startup when using WinAmp visualization (1 Viewer)

I want to use R4 visualization (R4) because of its great visuals, good beat detection and customization. Unfortunately MP hangs on startup with this vis enabled... R4 window appears, loading (modules/scenes), and stays on top preventing MP from starting.

- configuration.exe loads fine (R4 window-->loading-->disappear)
- SOMETIMES MP start without problems, I can't reproduce this, but apparently messing up with configuration, directories, config file (etc) cause MP to start successful: unluckily only once. After restarting (without changing anything) MP hangs again:(
- Tried to change skin (blue wide, x-factor), clear cache, change dll directory (visualizations/R4/r4.dll, visualizations/R4.dll, visualizations/winamp/R4.dll) and even changing path in mediaportal.xml to "program files/winamp/plugins/R4.dll", speed up R4 loading (remove scenes)...
- I had similar problems with RC1, SVN and beta version of MP

Any suggestion will be appreciated :)

Hi

Yes, I have the same problem, when using WinAmp vis plugins. In particular MilkDrop 2.0 (specifically 2.0 and 2.0c). I also tried the version of MilkDrop from the latest WinAmp, which appears to be MilkDrop 2.2, but that has a different problem regarding missing/mismatched DLL files. Others have the same problem, there's some posts here but no solution (yet!)

My log file looks almost identical to yours so I won't bother posting it, it ends with the same exact lines as yours and that's the last thing it ever prints. I'm using MediaPortal 1.1RC2 on Windows 7 32-bits.

Note that about 1 in 50 times, it successfully starts and works, I haven't found a pattern yet as to what allows it to NOT hang sometimes, when it almost always does. I actually find it worse that it works occasionally, than if it never worked... it gives me renewed hope, only to dash me down again!!

Using vis modules from WMP works ok, it seems to be WinAmp modules that fail. Your report is interesting though, as it's the first I've seen that's not relating to MilkDrop specifically... so it looks less like a MilkDrop issue, more a WinAmp vis module problem in general. It also makes me think that solving the DLL problem with MilkDrop 2.2 will likely get past one hurdle but still fail at this same point.

Any of the MediaPortal devs have any ideas on this? ...or maybe wanna run it through the debugger?? ;) MilkDrop is arguably the best vis module out there, it makes MediaPortal look so classy, and although I love 1.1RC2, I gotta say I miss the vis! (But seriously, I'm a perfectionist, and this is a relatively minor blemish in an overall awesome package!)
