MP hangs PC when stopping playback (sometimes) (1 Viewer)

Yes, I can confirm this also in 1.2.0B (maybe once in a week or two so didn't bother), but there is no pattern or some log entry to explain this. MP just crash and hang on stop with last log entry VideoPlayer9: Cleanup DShow graph.

for me it happens more frequently, maybe because I watch more frequently ? ...

When the hang occurred, it was always when stopping the playback (never starting or resuming) and it always was a complete hang, never a MP crash. The Picture would freeze on the last frame of the video, with a little spinning gear in the middle.

- I've tried four different ATI Catalyst drivers: 10.7, 10.11, 11.5 and 11.11 but it behaved the same.
- it was the same with MP 1.1.3 and 1.2.0b
- it happens with and without Haali Media Splitter
- it happens with and without ReClock renderer
- it happens with and without StreamedMP skin
- it happens with and without TVSeries and Moving Pictures plugins
- it happens with and without CoreAVC codec
- I've never seen this happen with XBMC (my son uses it for his movies/cartoons)
- I've never had a hang when playing videos via VLC or MPC-HD

I've used MP 1.1.3 for more than a year and this sort of thing only started happening around 3-4 months ago. It might have something to do with one of the Windows 7 updates, since that's the only thing that was happening to the system during that time. (aside from ATI Catalyst Video driver updates).

I don't know what else to try so I think I am going to clean re-install Windows 7 and give it a shot from there. cheers.

To me this sounds like a deadlock on the directshow side. To gain more information: Memory Dump - MediaPortal Wiki "MediaPortal: Pinpointing the code that causes a hang...". It might give some extra clues what is causing the hang.

wow, this one really stings (and stinks).

I have (cleanly) re-installed Windows 7 (32bit, no updates), installed latest ATI video driver (11.7), audio drivers, codecs, media portal and let an episode play in the background. When I came back 40 minutes later, the PC was hanged. Looks like it hanged at the end of the video playback. There was no need to press the Stop button to "make it so"

I have also had this problem. Especially when stopping a video playback. The computer would hang completely. Not lately, but a month or two ago. W7 64bits, Mediaportal 1.20b, Ati radeon 6670, Catalyst 11.7. I have noticed that it happens with .mkv files. Will post logs, if this starts to happen again. I just thought I would confirm that mr. caprica13 is not the only one with this problem

Some people are having the same problem and it seems to relate to ATI videocards and .mkv videofiles. First, I didn't realize it, but only a month ago I still had my Ati Radeon 3450 videocard which crashed quite frequently, but I have since upgraded my card to Radeon 6670 and updated my drivers to 11.7 and I haven't had that freezing problem since.

I indeed have an ATI 3650HD video card. I've tried every combination of everything and MP would still hang my system solid. I've used MP for about 3-4 years and these problems only started about 3-4 months ago. I don't know what's happening, but I just can't afford having my system frozen solid 2-3 times a day. It's not healthy for the file systems of my eight internal drives. It pains me to say this, but I was forced to move on to XBMC. It's working great. No crashes, just works.

Maybe one day when I upgrade my video card I'll give MP a try again.

yes, I kept updating my ATI Catalyst driver from time to time ... but as I've mentioned earlier in this thread I've clean reinstalled my Windows 7 32bit last week and tried all kinds of drivers (new and old)

perhaps if there was someone out there with the same (series) video card as me and Windows 7 32bit they could tell me which exact driver version and codec combination is working for them.
