Hello - im new here and am hoping someone can help! Its taken a long time to get my HTPC up and running, and I am having real issues with mediaportal. It crashes and freezes every single time its used. In some cases it will occur when im watching TV and a scheduled recording starts, in other cases its when i delete a recorded tv program when watching a recordrd program and i click the "stop" icon, but it also seems to crash of its own accord sometimes with no apparent reason whilst in the middle of watching TV.

Help me please! :)

My PC:
AMD 4800+
2GB ram
Onbooard graphics and sound (HDMI output to 37" LCD TV)
Windows Vista Ultimate (all up to date w latest updates)
Hauppage HVR-3000 TV capture cards (x 2)
Using DVB-S from the optus D1 satellite

My Media portal setup:
1.0 RC3 TV server and client.

I frequently get the mediaportal watchdog come up. i have just exported the log from watchdog and attached to this post.

The crashing is driving my wife nuts - so anyone who can help me fix this will be doing me a tremendous favour!

Hi TWSTD. There are many reasons why the TV server hangs or crashes. In my case, the problem was caused by a network monitoring software which I had installed from US Robotics. Everything is now working smoothly after I uninstalled this program. I have also disabled ehtray.exe from loading at startup. MP will try and disable it for you in any case. At this point, I have no need for Windows MCE on my TV server.

Check your TV server configuration and see if you have enough drive space for timeshifting. I have set my files to 3 and the file size to 32MB. You can use a ramdisk if you have memory for it.

Another thing you can try is turn off any anti-virus and spyware programs you may have (i.e. Windows Defender).
Please feel free to search the forum for more suggestions.

I have just turned off windows defender - makes no difference. As soon as i view a recorded program and select the "stop" icon i get a blank screen and it freezes up.

I am not using MP to play DVDs at all - just recorded TV. And i am already recording in .TS format. The blank screen i get it not as shown in this thread: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ge...iso-dvd-46978/ - my ENTIRE screen is black (as if the screen is recieving no data).

Cant someone look at my log file and tell me exactly why it crashed? I thought thats what the purpose of the log file was?

Also remember i get crashing from other things too - not just when stopping play on recorded programs - so i suspect something else is behind all this!

Thanks.

You have some errors, both in the tvserver error log and the Windows system event log regarding your trinity? card. These look to be hardware / driver related.

Also, crashing and blank screen on playback are two different things. Perhaps try and be a bit more specific about exactly what is going on. But I'd look at your TV hardware and drivers first.

What errors exactly? And what can i do to resolve these?

Trinity is the name of the computer - not a TV capture card.

Re crashing I get the following scenarios:

    1) (as previouslly explained) When watching a recorded TV program i right click to select "previous screen" and select the STOP button up the top and the screen goes black and media portal hangs. I have to open task manager and end task.

    2) Sometimes when trying to delete recorded TV programs media portal hangs / crashes and I have to enter task manager to end task.

    3) When watching live TV and a scheduled recording starts i get an error message come up saying time shifting was unable to start and then media portal hangs and I have to enter task manager to end task. Note i have TWO capture cards so it should use the other card to record but for some reason it doesnt (although i can open up a separate program (WinTV) and watch the other chanel fine - so both cards are actually working).

    4) When watching live TV sometimes freezes and i need to enter task manager to end task.

    5) Some times things like all the text dissappears from the media portal menus and buttons - they are all just blank

    6) Some times I loose the mouse pointer in media portal - however if i alt-tab to another windows application the mouse pointer returns and works fine for that application (but not in MP).

These are just some of the issues. I seem plagued with a variety of problems!

So when you say "look at your TV hardware and drivers first" what exactly should i be looking at and looking for?

    Thanks in advance!

Can i ask you to do some testing, if on the server, if you preview\change channels does it work fine, or is it only the client that experiences these problems.

Would need mediaportal logs as well if its proven to be a client server issue :)
