MP not starting up (1 Viewer)

Removing the xml and bak files worked. I take it they recreate themselves? Nothing further for me to do?

Correct. The first time you start MediaPortal, you'll get a popup from the Configuration screen if the XML isn't present.
If you have a backup of the old XML (which isn't corrupt!) you can copy that back to the folder, since it contains ALL your Configuration settings for MP.
If you've performed an upgrade with the installer, you should have a folder labeled 'backup' + date/time in your Program Data folder. If not, then you'll need to do the configuration manually.
