MP stops music when TV is turned off (1 Viewer)

As it says in the title. I have Vista 32 bit with all the updates and running MP on it. I use this htpc only for movies & music.

As soon as i turn off my TV (Full HD Pioneer) MP stops playing music while MP is still running.

I had an older htpc with XP which also had MP on it and it never had this problem. Hopefully someone has an answer.

How are your speaker connected to your HTPC ?

If your HTPC is directly connected to your TV through HTPC and shut it off, it will for sure no more give any sound, because the TV needs to be on to decrypt the HDMI audio.

I had quite the same issue while using HDMI (ATI HD 2400) with built-in audio for TV, and the jack output for music on other speakers through an amplifier :

when I switched off the TV the ATI sound device disappeared but the Default Directsound device wasn't automatically changed to my motherboard's sound card.

Yes, i have the Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H which has the ATI HD3200 onboard.

I have a Creative XFI Titanium fatality Pro series soundcard which i have connected my speakers to.

I am using a DVI ---> HDMI connector to my Pioneer HD tv.

Any advice?

Edit* its also the same when i play a movie etc.

Edit 2* The music keeps playing when i for example play an internet stream radio with MP not running.

Double-check in Configuration that all your modules (Movies, Music, DVD, TV) are using the "Default DirectSound Device".

Like that when your TV is unplugged, the default device should be your card... I'm just thinking that it could also be your motherboard's audio device, could you check that by doing the following :

- In configuration, uncheck start MP in Fullscreen
- Run MP, launch a music/video
- Be sure to have a remote control tool like VNC
- Power off your TV
- With VNC, open your sound settings in the control panel, go to audio tab and check which device is the default

ATI HD Rear xxx (don't remember the exact name) should have disappeared since HDMI signal is down.

All modules are set to Default sound device. I have used VNC and in the audio console it is my default audio device so it didnt change anything. ( i dont have ATI HD rear...)

I have also turned off the ATI HDMI audio device in my computer and BIOS so the only device running is the Creative one.

Ok were getting somewhere now. I have stopped the following processes in the Task Manager:

ati2evxx.exe (2 times)
ccc.exe

When i then start up MP and play music and turn off the TV the music keeps playing.

So it seems the problem has to do with ATI.

Now i just need to know if there is something i can do with ATI so i dont have to go in the task manager everytime my HTPC restarts to have MP work correctly (yeah dont turn off the pc ) no for real...

ATI have drivers that does not come with the CCC (Control Center). You choose if you want it or not on the download page. Maybe that will help? I can't check as I'm on Nvidia.

That could work but if i dont have access to CCC how will i be able to set the correct resolution (which is custom) made is CCC for my HD TV?

I have solved the problem by setting the "Ati External Event Utility" on manual in the Services part of Vista.
