Ok guys ive been tryin for a few days at this now and really not getting anywere!

I did a clean install of windows and mediaportal. added the skins i wanted and then the my film and tv series plugins. I set up the tvserver and then configured the films plugin. Everythin goin fine at this point i then started to set up the tv-series plugin. It found all my series including the files with .vob extension. At this point everything seemed to be 100%

I started mediaportal to test that everything was working. Myfilms worked myTV worked and when i go into TV-series it seems fine all banners appear all the episodes i loaded are there. The only problem i seem to have is when i select a .vob episode to play. The screen goes black and nothing happens. I click stop after a good minute or so and i am returned to the episodes list. I then select a file with .avi or.divx and they run perfect.

All the episodes are being run from a Home Server.

I tried using Filmerit to see if i had a codec problem but 0 errors from 216 files was the result i got.

Can anybody think of anything else that might be causing this??

Thanks for reading :D

how do i find the logs?

I just did some testing. I ripped a series of entourage onto my hdd and then split it into individual episodes. So in the file i have video_ts.ifo, VTS_1_0.bup, VTS_1_0.ifo and VTS_1_1.vob. etc For each vob file i have an ifo file and a .bup file.

When i play the vobs from the file with this file structure in my videos they play fine. I then copied and pasted the first 2 vob files with their respective .ifo and .bup files to another folder to test them. They did not play at all. They showed the same problem i described earlier.

So what am i missing i thought i was able to delete everything except for the vob files then rename these so tv-series would find them and put them into the database?

i think i found the logs.

Well, you're trying to play the .ifo file, not the .vob file. I'm not sure if thats even supposed to work, but I would try to work with vobs directly.

In any case, this doesn't really belong into this subforum since its got nothing to do with the plugin, maybe try the codecs subforum.

    Thnx

actually i deleted all the ifos and renamed the vobs so the plugin would find all the information for each episode. I tried playing them with the ifo and vob in same file but still nothing played. The only way to play them is with the video_ts in the same file.

i dont mind ripping them into individual folders but when i read them into the plugin i get a red flag! Cant figure out how to get the plugin to read info like it does with AVI files!

I'm probably making this alot harder than it should be so apologies!!

you renamed the vobs to .ifo?

What's wrong with leaving them .vob? Why would the plugin not find information (doesnt have anything to do with the file extension)?

no i deleted the ifo and renamed the vob to something like:

    entourage S01e01.vob

The plugin finds all information this way but when i put all the files (i.e. video_ts.ifo VTS_1_0.ifo and VTS_1_1.vob) into a folder the plugin finds each file but because they have no information in the name the fields are all red.

Is there any way to get the information from the folder names instead of the files??

Yeah, this post explains it fairly well, but I don't see why it won't work as it. Then again I don't have much experience with .vobs or dvd-rips in general, so i'll better shut up and see if somebody else knows more.

no worries inker thanks for all the help! i had read that file but little hard to follow lol

Neway i found a way of changing the .vob to mpg without any encoding. Didnt release i could just change the file extension  so i can change all the vobs to mpg and then delete all the ifo's. Then i just rename each episode and all should work well!!
