Don't get me wrong, that was not a slam or anything. I fully understand the realities of the situation. I LOVE MediaPortal and have used it for quite some time.

You know, there have been open source projects that have had commercial success as well with a version that had some closed source in it to support things that needed to meet those kinds of requirements. I wonder if there would be enough demand to warrant development of a 'commercial edition' of MediaPortal that could support these cablecard tuners? Worth a thought or two anyway.

I really really do not want to use WMC for my media center computer. Would much rather use MediaPortal. Hope things change in the future. :)

Hey guys... I would ask you to look at their firmware changelog Release 20111025 as the folks at SiliconDust seem to be working on the HDHomerun Prime and how it sees flags. Also, you'd mention the "copy-freely" content... While I too am not all so familiar with this M-card, or CableCard technology, I hear the MythTV guys are finding these flags aren't being so important as they're not being set! So it may be that only in select cases would there be any issue tuning the Prime seeing as the M-Card it's using is performing all of the decoding of the content from the cable provider.

I'd ask ssrjazz to see how this new update from SD does... also, I'll ask him: can you get the M-card registered with your cable provider and do you have to use WMC to get this accomplished or how does this registration/sync work?

I'd like to dump my DirecTV for cable and a Prime but don't want to use two s/w packages: MCE for the Prime; and, MP for OTA-ATSC/QAM/Cable-NTSC

I don't have mine hooked up right now due to home repairs, but I will see why happens when they are done.

Easiest way I know of to get the cablecard registered and working is with WMC. See the quick start guide from SD

Also looks like AndrewH may be onto something:

    From this wiki link:

Full support of CableCard requires that every device and software in the recording chain be certified as enforcing the copy protection mandated by the software. For insurmountable technical reasons, MythTV cannot comply with this. Because of this, the HDHomeRun Prime will only allow MythTV access to those shows that are not copy protected. These copy freely shows may be encrypted and inaccessible to a standard QAM tuner, but will be decrypted and made available through the HDHomeRun Prime. These are the same shows that can presently be accessed through firewire capture from a cable box.

Yes, the copy freely shows are accessible (that is what I said earlier), however we have to add code to TV Server to support that, or Silicondust need to make the functionality available in such a way that TV Server can use it without requiring code changes. A few months ago the Prime didn't work at all in TV Server. Now I'm told you should be able to receive clear QAM channels. If Silicondust continue to make progress then copy freely CableCard content will be available soon. Note that this (the ability to function even minimally in TV Server) *only* applies to the Prime - it does not apply to other CableCard tuners like the Ceton InfiniTV 4 which will not work at all right now. They have the same potential for enabling copy freely content to be viewed, but it seems their driver engineers are less proactive that Silicondust.

They've got hdhomerun prime running in mythtv for copy freely channels. Don't suppose the same setup can apply to mediaportal?

    Hi Rakeesh

As I said in my previous post, that will be possible with MP but it is not yet possible *right now* because code has not been written to enable this.
