1st run MP complained about DirectX SDK
I downloaded the entire October 2006 SDK and installed it.
MP starts up and complains - switching to the reference rasterizer, a software device that implements the entire Direct 3D feature set, but runs very slowly

starts up and does nothing - cant point to pictures, local video - forget live TV channels

need help

it sounds very much like your Direct X is screwy. You don't need the SDK, just 9c.
run dxdiag and see what it says.

Also, your graphics card may not be up to the task. What version of onboard gfx is it? Does it do hardware DX9 (highly recommended for smooth performance)?

I had a similar problem on my setup a while ago. I completely removed the old Ati-driver and reinstalled it.

I do not have the same graphics-card though.
