Hi there,

I am using Mediaportal for years with same HW, unchanged. With Release 1.2 I have now made a fresh installation. Everything fine but MP hangs as soon as I switch to Live TV. TV Server seems to work because I can view the RSTP stream with VLC. However, the channel preview within the TV Server Config does hang as well.

I have no idea what to do.
Logs attached.

Thanks in advance

best mumin

Why is the DScaler codec getting used? I don't see any reference to that in your MediaPortal preferences.

In the card setting there is an option for stop or pause. Could you please try setting this to stop (I am assuming it is pause now)

jameson_uk: yes, it seems to be pause, but note that streaming to VLC works --> pause is unlikely to be the problem

AW: MP1.2 hangs with Live TV

    Thanks for your help.

I have double checked with VLC player. Pause cannot be the problem because VLC shows a perfect stream from the TV Engine.

DScaler I don't know. I have not selected this (please see screenshot of the selected TV Codecs attached).

Yes, I did not read the whole thread

My hunch is that FFDShow is not set (or not able) to decode the MPEG2 video. Therefore it is going to chose a filter based on merit and is picking up DScaler as the one with the highest merit.

Are you sure FFDShow is setup to decode MPEG2 video?

YES!, you solved my problem jameson_uk :D

While configuring ffdshow I simply followed a tutorial found on the web and thought that this will do it. Especially as the tutorial asked me to set the last entry there to "match all". I thought that meant "use ffdshow for all incoming formats, however, I now saw that it was only for "uncompressed" formats while MPEG2 was in the list above.

As I am not experienced with codecs and ffdshow configuration, could you recommend some settings being best for MP?
    e.g. I can select libavcodec or libmpeg2 ?
Beside MPEG2 there are a lot more formats not assigned to libavcodec

    Thanks again!!

It is sometimes a matter of trial and error - I mean that you should use the one that works the best with videos and channels that you have. I use libavcodec as the default for MPEG 2.

Beside MPEG2 there are a lot more formats not assigned to libavcodec
In my case all of the formats above MPEG 2 are assigned to libavcodec. However I haven't enabled very many of the formats below MPEG 2. You may cause problems by enabling formats that you don't need. The most important ones are h.264 and MPEG 2. Others depend on what videos you have.

Setting the thread to "no bug" since this is a codec configuration issue...

Hi, mumin. Good to read you got your problem resolved. I'd be happy to share some ffdshow codec and feature settings with you. Been a real long day, though and honestly, my eyes are heavy. lol You understand. I don't want to simply show you screenshots without some explanation so if you are interested and don't mind waiting for awhile, I'd be happy to offer some help, with screenshots, suggestions, etc. I actually use Nvidia Pure Video for .ts right now but only because I couldn't decide between ffdshow (which I use for everything else...I mean, everything) and it. I will probably end up using ffdshow eventually for .ts, as it works wonderfully for such with no lag, etc. Let me know and it's possible I might just create a thread in another section related to codec's, etc...if the Mods do not want this thread in this section to be used for such...or simply send you a PM, etc.

    Cheers!

AW: Re: MP1.2 hangs with Live TV

    Hi Alex,

thanks for this offering - great idea and I guess it would help other people as well.

The normal user has only a rough understanding of codecs, their relation to formats etc.
So most people, I expect, try to solve it with a codec pack as "hammer". I have learned that this is a bad idea and Splitter and FFDhow is the best way to handle codec issues.

Therefore, it would be great to get some hints regarding ffdshow config. If you open a new thread in another place, then please drop me a line.

BTW, it is really great to see this active, helpful and very international community!
