I have some mp3s, and WMP 10, shows Artist, Song name, album filled in, and the filename is named the track name.

So for example

Chiasm Isolated, with filename of isolated.mp3

But Media Portal shows the song as

Chiasm UNKNOWN, for all the songs. What/where does Media Portal get its song info from?

    Hi,
    What view are you using?
Have you imported all your MP3:s tags to databasae with configure app?
Doi you have use MP3 tags on/off on configure app?

MP uses MP3 tags to show information about songs. It has multiple vies whitch are configurable on configure app.

I have retagged almost all of mine MP3:s before importing them to mine htpc. After copy i update database.

RC2 had a bug related to music views. Afaik that is fixed in current cvs.

There is a MediaPortal configuration application which you can use to modify the settings of MP, this is not the initial setup wizard.

You should have a shortcut called MP Setup, or failing that look for configuration.exe in c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal

Expand the music section, select Music database and click the button "Update music database from selected shares" This scans any music shares you have setup and read the MP3 tags into the MP music database, MP then uses this information to name the tracks.

You should get your tags correct first before doing this though. I used ID3-TagIT http://www.id3-tagit.de/ to update mine.

Thank You! that solved my problem. I guess I need to run that update after each time I modify the mp3 tags in WMP.

I thought/assumed that it read the tags each time Media Portal was loaded, but I guess it only reads them the very first time, unlss you run the update database.

    Thanks!
