MP4 videos out of audio sync (1 Viewer)

I actually have two audio syncing problems...

First, Any time I download and try to watch an MP4 video there is a severe and seemingly un-correctable audio lag.

The second problem occurs with recorded programs. I would say about 50% of the recorded programs gradually lose audio sync during watching. the sync can temporarily be corrected by rewinding or fast forwarding a few seconds. But eventually it will become unsynced again.

Do I just need the proper codec?

regarding your first problem - which codec do you use? does it just affect mp4 video and other formats don't have your described lag?

for problem#1 it only seems to affect MP4 files. Here is a screenshot of my codec settings. I havent fiddled with them.

i highly recommend installing und using lav filters. you can configure an audio delay in it's audio settings, once installed.
this codec is available as extension here. quite possible, that it will solve your other problem as well.
