Externally, without knowing any programming at all, it just seems to plug in, so whatever changes were made to Mediaportal ages ago to add madVR, I would hope it would not be that much different to add MPCVR
I remember the massave effort, back in 2016 I believe, required to get Madvr to work with MP1. It may be that MPC-VR can easily ride on the back of the Madvr implementation but I doubt it, I may well be wrong though.
Can MPC-VR handle frame packed 3D, I know that was my main interest and involved a lot of testing with Madvr to get it working in MP1 (it still does) but what has happened to 3D movies?

I have no idea about 3d handling. Our 1080p 3d tv died 3-4 years ago and our new 4k tv's don't do 3d anymore. No idea why, 3d would be better on 4k sigh

I don't know if it makes any difference, but MPC-VR is open source too, so that might make it easier to integrate if you can access the code to see what it's doing.
I don't think madVR was opensource IIRC

In addition to what other people have said, MPC VR also has support for:
    • hardware deinterlacing with D3D11 decoding, which madVR never implemented
    • DXVA Super Resolution, the way which e.g. NVIDIA and Intel GPUs can provide AI upscaling
    • HLG HDR (used by some broadcasters), which madVR doesn't
    • (Edit) It can also turn Windows HDR on and off as needed (madVR can only use AMD and NVIDIA's proprietary APIs to do that, which regularly break with driver updates)
    AFAIK it doesn't support 3D.

Developer Aleksoid says "The renderer can potentially work with any DirectShow player", but I guess looking at MPC-HC's or MPC-BE's source code would be needed to integrate is successfully. Maybe rather MPC-HC because IIRC most of MPC-BE and MPC VR's docs and official forum are in Russian.

It's really a shame madshi stopped public releases and PC development, madVR was what made my HTPC really stand out from any other player.

MPC-HC is opensource and available here

This is certainly good, but since MPC Video Renderer is a Direct Show Filter, maybe it would be easier to modify it so that it works in the Media Portal like LAV Filters?
MPC-VR is a Directshow Video Renderer, not a directshow filter
Even MPC-HC has the video renderers seperate from things like lav filters

If it doesn't connect to the Media Portal, then there's no point in it.

AFAIK it just registers as a Direct Show video renderer in Windows, the same as MadVR and every other Direct Show filter. In MPC-HC you can it select it in a drop down list, which also lists MadVR, Haali, the default Windows EVR en VMR renderers. Why doesn't Mediaportal follow this route actually and does it 'hardcoded'? Isn't it possible to let the user choose any installed Direct Show renderer, just like with the Direct Show filters?

Doesn't Mediaportal follow this path? I don't see anything hardcoded about this in the source code. Can you tell me where it is?

There's a choice in the settings, but I don't know if you can select MPC Video Renderer there. Have you tried it by any chance? Maybe it's possible?
