Hello

I'm trying to get the ION chip to do the work when watching SD-TV (mpeg2)

From what i understand i should be able to do this by using EVR and MS och codec ?
But it seems not to work. Can's find that much info on the forum when it comes to "dxva" and mpeg2.

Could anyone point me in the right direction ?

    Maybe I can ;)

One thing I noticed when I changed from a 7900gs (overkill) to a gt220, my cpu went up playing mpeg2 files from around 2 to 5%, funny enough that's about what I get when playing 720p now, 1080 around 8-12%, so there still seems to be some feedback to the cpu, which could be driver related.

ps. as a after note, I'm running 190.45 drivers, if I update to very latest, my Win7 graphics index score plummets from 6.5 to 4.2, so which driver you are using is important :)

Installed 190.40 and updated perfomance index. Same numbers.
When playing SD with EVR it still seem to only use the CPU and drops alot of frames.
The graph (shift+1) looks like a 8-10 earthquake. Will do another run and attach the logs.

    Hi

CPU show 50% (Dual core, so its maxed out)
Signal is good, have 2 clients and the other client (a C2D E5200,AMD GPU without dxva-support) have no problem with the signal.

I can see why you think dxva is broken with those figures, have you installed any other codec's at all, would expect your setup to run at 5-10% for mpeg2 and 10-30% for HD, so something is definitely wrong.

As a very last resort, you might want to try the Win7 codecs pack from shark007 (Google), at least this will let you try PowerDVD codec for mpeg2, and if there are any registry errors with filter merits, it fixes them.

Sorry not to be more exact on why you have this problem, because the M$ codecs are dxva enabled by default

    Installed shark007 windows 7 codecs.

    Same result.

Tried changing to VMR9 and noticed no droped frames, cpu still high though. Someware around 25-40%.

Did some log-gathering if someone would like to take a look. One is with EVR and the other is EVR.
EVR shows alot of "....behind, dropping frame"

Oh, and i didn't say before, hwacc works fine under boxee.

EDIT: Found the PowerDVD after i'v done the change in shark007 application. Still CPU at 20-30% but the framedropping woth EVR have stopped and all lines exept yellow are flat.

Cyberlink codec is better than the M$ one a lot of users are reporting, really need another ion user to compare against, still think that is very high cpu, and you definitely should be using EVR.

Sorry not much help from now on, hopefully another user may be more helpful.

I would however recommend you set the MPC codec for h.264 in the shark config setting and MP, this drops my cpu considerably against the M$-DTV\DD codec, with no visible difference I can see.

Hopefully you will get everything nice and smooth with the minimal cpu use :)
