MPEI broken (on my installation) (1 Viewer)

OK, I'm getting prepared to do a fresh OS and MP 1.2.3 install on a separate partition, and upon trying to upgrade BackUpSettings in my 1.1.0.0 install, discovered that MPEI is now broken. (haven't used MPEI for maybe a year, and don't know when or how it happened)
The error is the always helpful 'mpei has encountered an error and needs to close'.
Any way to fix MPEI, or manually upgrade BackUpSettings? (WITHOUT doing a fresh install - which I'm already trying to do)

Worst case, I suppose I can get by with just copying over saved TV recordings, and setup everything else by hand. Not a huge deal).

Start button -> Programs -> Team MediaPortal -> MediaPortal -> User Files

Make a backup of the entire directory, which should give you all MP Config settings (MediaPortal.xml), plugin settings, databases & thumbs
When you're ready with the clean install, you can put back what you need.
