Ralph, you are right, your file doesn´t play and in the meantime I´ve found two or three mpg files in my archive that aren´t played. There are mpg2 files which can´t be played too.
I don´t know what to do right now. I´ll play with directshow merrits maybe that helps, but I´m not very optimistic.....

However, this is a good working thread I think,

Thanks to everybody, Tobi

There are NEWS !

I found out that non playable mpgs in my case all are so called program streams.
Converting them to transport stream (this is losless and works for example with womble mpg editor or MPG-VCR) makes them playable !!!

Great find MediaTobi!

Unfortunatly I don't have a license to the womble tools So now I'll need an external 70$ software app to watch the videos that used to work - I don't think so :)

Do you know of any free alternatives that can do the same conversion, or of a workaround in MP?

(I still can't understand that there arent more people complaning over this loss of functionality)

-Reverting to an older SVN.

    Hi,
Of course someone it's interested in this, just need some time to test it (private life & work keeps me busy from MP testing lately ;) ) I can confirm that Ralph's file doesn't play & most of my old music videos in mpg format doesn't work anymore, i need to find where it did go wrong & add it to Mantis.

    Regards
    Roy

maybe this is caused by the use of TSFileSource.ax

could you please check your logs if TSFileSource is used when you play our mpg file(s) ?
and ckeck if the same file plays in WindowsMediaPlayer 10 or 11

    *edit*
just check your logs and it shows that TSFileSource is used for the playback.
can you confirm that the files play normaly in Windows MediaPlayer 10 or 11?

    Hi,
infinityloop, the files play in WMP 10/11, so seems to be TSFileSource.ax.

    Thanks MediaTobiPortal!

Conversion seems to be fairly fast and lossless.

Also thanks to all the devs looking into this!

    Edna - was a pleasure

@all developers - I´m happy that you all have a look into this now...
My files play in Windows MediaPlayer, and the logs say TSFileSource.ax is used.

    Thanks, Tobi

I have no idea if this is related to this bug but recorded and converted mpg files with MP dont play any sound. If i play the same file in VLC it does play sound. i'm not capable of making and posting logs since i'm moving from one place to the other... Maybe someone else has encountered this problem too.

I'm using the latest svn MediaPortal.svn / 02.03.2007 / 01.02.Rev12833.exe and the previous version of the SVN had the same problem.
