Multiple Hard Drives in Mediaportal? (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,

I have more than just one question, but Ill start with what to me, should be the easiest. I have 6 hard drives, and I know I can enter the mediaportal config, and click ADD, but I can only check ONE box, so when I go into MediaPortal I only see the movies from ONE hard drive, not all 6. How do I change this?

Second question: I have some video files that are split into two disks, and after updating my database, it always creates two covers for the one movie, is there a way to change this? All my videos are separately in their own prospective folders.

Third: Is there a way to manually import the cover title, or a better way it can do a more in depth search for titles for movies? I have indie films, and a lot of UK films and it has a hard time finding all the covers and info. Also when I add just one or two blurays/dvds every week and want the covers updated to show inside mediaportal, do I always HAVE to update the entire database?

I have about 5,600 dvd/blu rays in my collection, and Ive tried all media centers known to mankind, I fancy mediaportal the best out of them, it has the nicest interface Ive seen so far. (although mymovies has the best database management!)

Don't check any boxes and it should display all you're video paths/folders, the check is to take you to a default share you want it to.

name the files exactly the same and add "CD1" and "CD2" without the "

I think you can manually add/edit the data in mediaportal config/videos/video database in the editor tab

so when I name the CD1 and CD2 , do I leave the movie name AND add CD1 (example: "Batman Returns CD1.mkv)", or for just clear out the name and make it "CD1.avi" ? EDIT nvm, I re-read your post and figured it out

Also what about the tv series that I have, it makes a folder/cover for each individual file (example: Dexter Season 3, then I have like 13 episodes in that folder)

For my TV Series I use Tv-series plugin, it's very good for tv, with my movies I pretty much stick to MP's My Video as Moving pictures doesn't sort movies by shares as far as I can work out and I have my movies (1200+) sorted by shares across multiple disks.

just fyi when you use the .CD1, CD2 with your movies you can have .CD3, .CD4 etc

Moving Pictures

I used the built in Videos feature when I first started using Media Portal. I found that it required so much more work to manage large collections. I also have 1300+ movies spread over 4 HDDs. With Moving Pictures, you just add the folders and it does the rest. My favorite part of Moving Pictures is that if you have the config window open while you move files, it updates their location realtime (so if I run out of room on 1 drive, and need to move a movie to a different drive it picks up the move and doesn't have to redownload the movie info). The only thing I don't like about Moving Pictures is that it doesn't show the movie rating (G, PG, etc.. I'm not sure why you'd want to sort by share if you have that many movies. Alphabetical by title for me works best. I use a MCE remote and the Remote filtering is a godsend.

For tv shows there really isn't anything better than MP TVSeries either. Again, I have a large collection of tv episodes (7000+) spread over multiple HDDs. Adding the top folder where they are stored (I use TV Renamer to manage and rename the files for each show) and it adds them all seamlessly into the list. I used to use NTFS Junctions to make Windows think all the files were in a single folder, but noticed there was a lag when loading that many files each time I opened the program. So now I just add the Movie or TV Show folder on each of the hard drives and it scans the subfolders.

I have a similar issue with files spread over several HD's. What I use is a tool called HardLink Shell Extension Link Shell Extension
This allows me to make a small 'media' partition, and create junctions (needed if accessed over the network) so all the directories on the different HD's can all be accessed through a single Dir in the media partition.

Eg, my media partition has a movie dir with all subdirectories junctioned from other drives (comedy, drama, sci-fi, thriller etc). Then I have a TV-series dir with all series subdir's junctioned from the other drives.

Makes things much easier to sort and search through, especially for others over the network that have no idea of my 'random filing system'

That is skin-dependent. Many skins don't show this, as a choice from the skin developer. For StreamedMP for instance, there is a replacement Details screen, based on the Aeon skin, that DOES show this information. On the other hand, with Moving Pics 1.0, you can now sort by rating etc...

To answer your question Exempt - you need to name your movies:
MovieName CD1.ext
MovieName CD2.ext
etc...
And they'll get picked up as multi parts in MovingPictures AND the in-built video section.

myTVSeries simply imports the files into it's own DB and sorts the rest for you (names of series, episodes, images, banners) just point the config at your source(s) and click the import button.
You may have to identify one or two series, but you'll get to choose from a list if this happens.

I also use this: Awesome Simple Best TV Show Renamer .....with Episode Titles! to rename the series into the 'correct' naming convention from online DBs
