I also wanted to try the Plugin Global Music Search but it doesnt show up in the MediaPortal Config under Plugins where I expect it can be configured?!

Mine shows and It's working thanks to your tip.
I think I know why you can't see it.Do as follows:

Install from the link you pointed on yr post.
After instalation run MP extension installer.
On the installed extansion tab open the global search and select: configure.
Now go to MP configuration and if everything goes right it will be there.
Select you music database on MP configuration > music > music folders and also music database.
And that's it.Good luck.
