Could a new database table be created that would allow an outlook style viewing of family appointments/schedules? It could then post/display on the screen "pickup the kids" at the time/day from in teh database.

A good idea. Sounds like the start of a calendar plugin for MP but I think it goes a little beyond of the scope of the current alarm plugin.

It is possible that I could make some sort of custom view to display the alarms in a calendar type mode.

Do u have the ability to use this to throw a splash screen (definable) on the playing video (i.e. a context or osd) for a defined period of time, or until the user forces it off. You could use the current context skin art to save a step and simply plug-in the desired alarm messaging.... or image

This would be useful for "I have to pickup the kids" - also with the associated sounds and misc.....

I have done exactly that. You can now set a message when creating an alarm. When the alarm goes off a popup comes up from the bottom of the screen (similar to how the topbar animation) and displays the message.

I have a button to close the popup as well.

My idea was to have it displayed over video etc. only when the user sets an option in the my alarm plugin but it seems Fullscreen video , dvd etc doesn't allow overlay from non OSD overlays? I played with it a bit but it wasn't working for me but in all other contexts it works fine.

Here it is ... be sure to back everything up and you will need to recompile as I had to modfy one of the files in the core guilib. My explanation is in notes for the file.

The only thing i forgot to add was animation for when you start the alarm plugin to be consistant with the rest of MP. I am going to do this now.

I guess the last post was lost but someone posted for the alarm plugin to play a tv channel.

I think this is a good idea and I will look into it.

I think that I will spend of time on the design of the alarm plugin to allow any other plugin to easily add a new "media type" without touching the core alarm plugin. (i.e in code terms an interface)

Lots of ideas can stem from this. i.e. send an email message on an alarm, x10 control, tv etc.

I am finishing the current changes for the next version then I will look at doing this. I don't want to start to many things at once.

I think if your alarm could tie in with the myscript plugin and allow events (and scripts) to be triggered then it would be a start in the right direction.

Another excellent idea. Hopefully soon I will spend a bit of time reworking the alarm to allow for all of this functionality.
