Go figure. ALL weekend I was having problems, and I give it another go right after work to see if there's any changes and it starts pulling down episode information. No changes. No restarts. No network resets. The program wasn't even closed. It just magically started working.:rolleyes:

edit: I'm inclined to believe that MyAnime2 is causing a flood trigger of some type. It seems after extended periods I'm able to pull data normally, but after a few dozen lookups the server becomes unresponsive.

Following up on this to see if any of the devs have had a chance to check this out. I've pretty much determined that MyAnime2 has to be triggering flood protection on the Anidb servers. Prior to the trigger, I can manually pull data from Anidb without issue. After I let MyAnime2 run for a while, the collection stops. If I try to do a manual lookup, AniDB returns *banned*. This lasts until approximately 24 hours or so, after which the ban is lifted and I am able to once again manually pull down information and MyAnime2 begins to operate normally.

As far as the web cache plugin option goes - I'm not sure if MyAnime2 uses it to gather group/series, but if it does - it isn't working. It seems the cache is only working for hashes (when enabled), and individual files/episodes - but without the group/series loaded these files fail to be linked to anything and remain as unrecognized.

Any ideas?

If you get this error you should wait until your ban has been removed and then try running the import again.
It should pick up from where it left off usually.

I would say it is a working title, Craig might disagree :)

Not so much functional scope yet, more like some very high level goals.
The main one being to separate the back end functionality from the user interface
Back End = File hashing, downloading info from AniDB/TvDB, Database functionality, etc.

The main reasons for this separation?
- Allow the database to be shared between multiple clients e.g. you can use the client plugin on different machines and both machines will know which episodes have been watched etc, hashing of files is only done on one machine
- Allows creation of different types of clients without needing to re-do all the back-end functionality
- Definite Clients: Media Portal 2 Plugin, Windows Client
- Probable: Windows Media Centre
- Possible: Web Server/Browser Based, Android etc

For most users of MyAnime in MP, they probably don't care about this stuff, but it is important to some of us :)

Other non-related goals (mine, other devs will have their own)
- Full support for localisation (other langauges)
- Support for SQL Server, SQLite
- Persisting of commands to database, so you can resume from where you left off for an import
- Simplified processing of files and commands (slower but more reliable)
- Searching on anime titles across languages, synonyms etc
- More powerful filtering and user defined views
- Name pattern matching like TV Series

This is very common for large collections.
If you get this error you should wait until your ban has been removed and then try running the import again.
It should pick up from where it left off usually.

I understand that, but the problem is I *DO* have web cache enabled. Yet requests are being sent to AniDB anyways. Is this normal operation?

Yes.
Only some information from AniDB is stored on the web cache.
The remainder (majority) of information will be retrieved from AniDB.

With a collection of 7000 files, I would bet on you getting banned a couple of times before you finish the import.

Unfortunately there is not much I can do about this.

Also, this is happening entirely way too soon - Around 25 files or so. That means my collection would take almost a year to catalog if I caught every ban the moment it occurred and restarted it the moment the ban was lifted. I never had this problem before until recently (in fact, i was initially able to import 5k files in MyAnime2 in 2-3 days about 6 months ago), and other clients do not appear to have this problem either. I am a bit discouraged about the response, because it pretty much translates to "MyAnime is unusable to you" and it really is a great product I'd like to use - and it baffles me how other clients handle it fine.

Would it be possible to request a custom delay to slow requests down and/or monitor for ban status and hold all queues until after 4+ hours in a future version?

Yes 25 files is way too soon. I would only expect the ban a couple of times in 7,000 files (I recently did about 2000 files without a ban)
If you are able to give me the full log when you are banned that will be helpful.
I will pass on the sequence of UDP commands to the AniDB developer who might be able to say why you are getting banned so quickly.

FYI - the only limit AniDB has is one request every 2 seconds.
They use an algorithm to try and detect if you are harvesting data and then ban you.

    Hi all,

    A few issues I ran into recently.

    1. This is the simple one. It would be nice if the "Move Episodes to Another Series" dropdown list was alphabetized. Currently, it's kind of alphabetized, but not really:

    2. I'm having trouble with One Piece again. This time, it looks like the database is somehow just losing new files (and some old ones) even though I see them being hashed in the import screen. To illustrate this, I deleted the One Piece series and group so that all of the files would show up in the Unrecognized Files tab under the File Manager:

    There are several other missing episodes like this, and every new episode I've downloaded recently (eps 281-285) have failed to show up. The "Refresh File List" button doesn't fix it. This is a problem because the files are not being automatically associated and apparently I have no way of manually associating them either.

    I re-created the series and ran the "Download Eps" option for AniDB. The new files now show up, but some of the older ones (such as ep14) remain missing. Furthermore, I have a feeling that any new episodes I download from now on will also fail to show up unless I do a complete re-download from the plugin config, as the last time I had to do a "Download Eps" was at episode 280, and every new file thereafter failed to appear until I ran through the whole process again. Attached are the logs of my last "Download Eps" from AniDB:

    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.
    
    For example:

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
