My shot at modding the monochrome (1 Viewer)

Hey guys.

I'm kinda new here, thou i followed the forum for quite a while. i started using mp for just about a week ago, never really played with any media centers. But since i plan to make a htpc for my dad (he pays) i went ahead and tried this great app. Soon got a bit addicted to get everything done, and learned the basics of how to set up media etc. and then i would like to change the skin.

it took base from monochrome v2.4 - and here is what i come up with so far. i will post more screenshots when i get further. its still a bit n00bish but hey. it'll get better i hope

The backgrounds i use is from an fan art package i found. can easily be modified since its just a folder it reads from. i can't quite figure out how to link it to show folders from user files, so atm its included in the script folder.

the icons, is a missmatch. im working on some new icons, this was just to see how the xml worked.

same time i made the basichome.xml a bit easier for newcommers to edit the buttons:

  <define>#button01text:Movies</define>
  <define>#button01picture:video.png</define>
  <define>#button01link:96742</define>

now all you have to do to get it to link to something else is edit those 3 lines for each buttons.

Looks good. You might wanna check out how AEON handled background images so you can have relevant backgrounds for each home menu item (if that's what you're after). A folder with movie backgrounds, another with music backgrounds etc.

yea i was looking a bit on the aeon. but when you browse around in basic home in aeon it gets confused imo... i ment taking the pictures from the shares folder insted of the skin folder. sp that the img could be used for movies also and not just skin... no reason to take up space and ressources in having the img's 2 places

What I meant was that both of those screens you've posted show backgrounds from movies and the selected icon is "music". Not sure we're talking about the same stuff here.

we are.. but for aeon i think its a bit confusing when it changes everytime. maybe movie posters are not the best examples to use. but could be any images for sure

ok now i played around a bit more... and emphatic. your right. maybe it would be great if i could get it to change pictures according to which section in the menu is marked. its a pain in the arse i tell ya

I like it! Has a dashboard kinda look. Maybe you can add some transparancy to the top black border of this "dashboard" (me likes all things transparant )

shouldn't be a problem to make... (if i remembered to save the psd file )
i made it with 4 diff colors blue,red,green and yellow/orange...

im not quite sure which part you want trans ? the lower part where settings etc are ?

Wow! That's really a step forward from the "just a Monochrome mod". Would be really nice if the "settings" were almost the same colour as the dark bit at the bottom until you select it.

Nice to see some new talent here. Perhaps the skin scene for MP 1.0 will explode now that no huge changes pops up and renders them unusable all of a sudden.
