We always try to convice the possible new adepts.

The MySQL Installation normally works correctly. In case you would like to give it a last go you should
Uninstall MediaPortal
Uninstall MySQL using the Windows functionality
Delete any remaining directory traces on your harddisk that relate to MySQL
Run a tool such CCleaner to remove obsolete registry entries
(Last not least, but that may be some work, search the registry manually and delete ever hit of MySQL)

Then try a last time...
