Hi all,

I've been messing with mediaportal all day. The problems I had been having where related to "my tv". Just couldn't get it to work. When I'd click on "my tv", It would take me to the "my tv" section, and a blank dialogue box would appear, with "my tv" as the title. After hours of goofing around with channel scanning, and setting up the guide (thanks to the wonderful tutorials here), I got past all that and "my tv" was working.

So I figured I'd move on. I have plenty of video stored on another machine that I couldn't get to work, so I start working on that. I have my video folder added, and I choose video... Locked... I CAN get to video without locking if I do not have my network drive mapped. But this is all besides the point.

I decide that I'm going to jsut watch some tv, and maybe try recording something. So after restarting MP (after the lockup) and go into tv, I find that I get the blank dialoge box again, and no tv ability, no guide, my channels are all messed up. What the heck!!

So whats the deal? I have to rescan channels and redownload the guide every time I restart???

If you could only see the tears in my eyes...

I've repeatedly gone back through the very steps that I got "my tv" working with, and no luck getting it back what so ever. I guess it was a fluke that I got it working in the first place...

****EDIT

Just an update...

I'm still tring to get tv to work, and it seems to be getting worse. I'll do the scan in autotune for my card, channels look good, fire up MP and I get that stupid blank dialogue box. Exit out, go back to MP setup >channels, and low and behold; channel list is empty! So I re-scan, and now the preview box is blank while it's scanning channels. It just gets worse. Now I'm not sure how I got it work in the first place. All I really did before was to repeat the same process' over and over again.

clue

I guess this would be a good clue:

But, before anyone says something about my video cards' directx 9 compatability (I can't seem to find that info anywhere, and can't afford a better card anyway), please tell me how I got it to work! It did work. I was a happy camper until it locked, and I just can't get it back.

This is a bit late but one thing I have learned is that XP's System Restore feature is a blessing! I downloaded a free application that creates a Restore Point at every boot so 'if' something goes horribly wrong, I just 'System Restore' my system back to when MP worked perfectly.
As an example, I tried using 'standby' mode on main MP box but I couldn't get it to wake up again without a hard reboot. That reboot screwed up my MP big time. I couldn't get the TV cards recognised again and some other small issues. Now when somethiing goes wrong, it takes me 10 minutes to restore it back to when it was 'all good'.
I know this doesn't help you but it's worth downloading an automatic Restore Point creator to help you get MP perfect one step at a time, rather then 2 steps forward and then 1 step back.
It may be worth checking System Restore to see if you can roll it back to before you had issues?
Additionally I have found that uninstalling MP and then reinstalling can fix issues too. NOTE: Make sure you reboot between uninstall and reinstall to clear any rubbish from memory etc.
    I hope that helps.
P.S. Now if my wife rings me at work to say she is having MP issues (rarely I might add), I talk her through rolling the system back with System restore. That is much easier then trying to diagnose/repair PC faults over a phone.

P.S.S I notice you are using the latest MP, it may worth trying version 2.0.0 and then apply the 2.0.4 patch? It's not so 'bleeding edge' and it may help.
Also I picked up a 2nd hand AU$50 DirectX9 compatible card from the PC markets. It works a treat and does not require a cooling fan so it's about as quiet as can be. It does play games too but obviously not high quality like a true gamer would like but then this PC is for TV, DVD, radio, etc and occasionally 'The Simpsons' game for the kids, so it's a great card.
