My TVSeries.....for me? (1 Viewer)

Hi all, I am currently a new punter in the world of media Pc setups (about a week) so excuse my lack of knowledge on this plug in, and MP in general for that matter, but I have a couple of questions someone may be able to help me with.

I have just been scouring this forum to work out the best way to load and catalogue our series of dvd collections. (just how many damn "sex in the city" and "friends" dvds are there?! ;) )

It appears that my tvseries is what I need to have going off the polls, everyone seems to be using it but I would like to know if there is a help file or FAQ somewhere so I can work out the best way to rip and store them, initial file structure etc, and a general rundown on how to use it to it's best. I am lead to believe it stores them seperate to the "my movies" which is what I am after.

Also, does this have any connection to the TV recording part of MP? By that I mean can I use it to record, (talking tv recordings now, not dvd rip) store them and then catalogue them into their respective series for later playback?

See why I am looking for a good FAQ? :D Most threads here seem way above my level of understanding of the plug in yet. "WAF" must be good, it's going to be mainly for her anyway. I' more a music and movie kind of guy!

cheers
Paul

P.S My skin is spinsave revolve, any issues with using it with that skin? I really want to keep it if possible.

Hi Mirk. good to hear :D

Could you be so kind to help with my other Qs' ?

I'm ready to start loading up, but want to make sure I do it with the correct structure etc first up.....Assuming it does what I'm hoping it does.

Edit: Sorry Mirk, I am a bit slow today. two solid days of loading DVD and music onto my system will do that! . I just realised you are the author of both of these plugins. The spinsafe is an absolute work, thank you.

Damn... I missed the answer link... stupid "thanks" button... :D

    To your issues:

It appears that my tvseries is what I need to have going off the polls, everyone seems to be using it but I would like to know if there is a help file or FAQ somewhere so I can work out the best way to rip and store them, initial file structure etc, and a general rundown on how to use it to it's best. There is some basic information in the MP-wiki, but it's a bit outdated since inker has done a lot of updates in the last time.

Also, does this have any connection to the TV recording part of MP? By that I mean can I use it to record, (talking tv recordings now, not dvd rip) store them and then catalogue them into their respective series for later playback?
You can choose different directories to be watched by this plugin. So if you have a dir for the TV recordings the only thing would be that they get named in a way that the plugin can understand. The needed information is series name, season and episode number.

See why I am looking for a good FAQ? :D Most threads here seem way above my level of understanding of the plug in yet. "WAF" must be good, it's going to be mainly for her anyway. I' more a music and movie kind of guy!
As mentioned above... the FAQ is more a basic thing. Perhaps I can update it a bit, if I can spare some time. With a good setup the WAF is really high and most users here will confirm that point.

P.S My skin is spinsave revolve, any issues with using it with that skin? I really want to keep it if possible.
Since mirk is around here, they should work together.

Edit: Sorry Mirk, I am a bit slow today. two solid days of loading DVD and music onto my system will do that! . I just realised you are the author of both of these plugins. The spinsafe is an absolute work, thank you.
Don't want to smallen Mirks achievements, but the author of this plugin is inker with the help of zeflash atm. ;)

    Best regards

Hey thanks for the help GB. It sounds like it's the go for me, so I will install and have a go.

Thanks for the link too, I will have a thorough read of it, but at a quick glance it's exactly what I need to get me started.

Shows how long I have been staring at this damn screen for. I don't know my insters from my Mirks  Just cracked 3 days setting this up from scratch with marginal sleep in between :) It's looking pretty good now though! My problem is I load up a good movie I haven't seen for a while and start watching it!

One more possibly stupid question if I may, do you guys rip the dvd and split them up into the separate episodes?
I am assuming this is what is needed to get the individual file names of each episode, but one thing I have learnt with all this is not to assume anything :D

Hmm.. Actually somehow they already "automatically" appear on my HDD ripped :)
And yes, split them per episode according to www.thetvdb.com, that way the plugin will be able to match them with the db.

Yep, each episode needs to be a separate file. A bit of a tip though, even though you already own the DVDs, if you are familiar with the technology, it may be faster to download the series/seasons you own from bittorrent rather than ripping and reencoding them. I own all 5 seasons of Futurama on DVD, but rather than spending the time to rip each and every one, I just downloaded them, which saved me a lot of time and effort. I am no lawyer, but as far as I know this is completely legal assuming you own the original media.

In alot of countries it's not even illegal to download (Uploading is though) if you didn't buy them. Its just what they want you to think, but that's a whole other issue.

Thanks for the help everyone. I still haven't loaded it, and I'll wait until I get all my movies and music sorted first then I'll move onto the series stuff.

It sure takes a lot of effort just to make life easy! ;)
