Synopsis:: -

I think I have the strangest problem.

The sound and video stutters

- in:
* DVD menus (root etc)
* all MP menus that you can use during videoplayback
* MP main menus etc. if video are active and playing in the minitaure window

- when:
* I navigate the above with my X10 remote

- if the following are true
* AC3 and DTS are set passthrough to S/PDIF (not if AC3 and DTS is decoded with computer)
* Using X10 remote (not when navigating with arrows on keyboard)

Can someone explain why MP does not cope with my remote in combination with S/PDIF passthrough??

Ok! This problem is pissing me off!!

I can not move around in DVD menues quickly and as soon as I press pause and the timeline menu enters the screen my receiver gets all weird and flipping between dolby digital / analog and 5 seconds of stuttering video before it actually pauses.

Ok maybe you guys think this is a frickin lame bug and don't care about this!
For me it's annoying as hell!

I have really narrowed it down for you if you mind reading the above.
I have now also came to the conclusion that this bug only occurs if the above are true and X10 remote is activated in mediaportal config.

If I use my remote with the software that came with it (navigating keys are simulated keypressed of arrows on the keyboard) it works wonderful. But I do not have much functionallity as menu keys or others. Only "navigating" and "enter".

Here is the log with X10 off and some fiddling around the menus of a DVD movie.

Here is the log with X10 on and software that came with remote uninstalled

I really need help!!

Could you please try a fresh installation of MediaPortal which is not using the old settings? Don't install any 3rd party plugins, just enable X10 remote and play something. No need to set up TV or anything for this check.

If you still experience those problems, post a log again.

And... keep cool. We're trying to help. :D

Ok,

I made a copy of my mediaportal map. Uninstalled and deleted the mediaportal map. Made a clean install of 0.2
Only configured for X10 and the decoder settings and then started a DVD.

Same thing again.

Here is the log
http://pastebin.team-mediaportal.com/10643

I am using the X10 driver suggested in mediaportal config program.
I have also tried with the one that came with remote.
Maybe it is my X10 driver which is incompatible with Mediaportal?
Anyway no difference.

Noone else seems to have reported this error so maybe it is something else? My motherboard with s/pdif is not working correctly with mediaportal or whatever.. im clueless.

This time I also used Bluetwo skin and not the MCE that I have been using before and that did not do any difference either.

I really do not get this :(

Hmmmm... Me neither. If you're using the same driver like everyone else does it shouldn't be a problem. Especially not this weird way. I can't spot anything strange in your log either. So maybe it's really some kind of incompatibility with your mainboard and the X10 driver stuff MP uses?

Sorry, I'm out of ideas, maybe anyone else has a clue?

I guess you already updated all drivers for your mainboard/integrated sound?

I have a ASUS A7V600-X with Soundmax integrated soundchip. This suck imho. I used to have Nforce2 chipset with soundstorm which was a kick ass sound chip.

The problem is that there have not been any developing for any new drivers for this codec since end of 2003. Soundmax or "Analog devices" does not offer any OEM driver but are refering to the motherboard manufacturers drivers.

There is some bug in the driver.
The Audiorender must be set to Soundmax digital audio to even be possible to have s/pdif set to passthrough. If I use Default directsound as audiorender it does not matter if I have the audiocodec set to s/pdif. It just does'n work. This was a pain in the beginning before I learned how to bypass this problem. I do not know if this has something to do with the problem with mediaportal.

My god! I have finally worked around the problem! Indeed it was the audiodriver. But maybe it also has somethinh to do with X10 driver.

I spent 4 hours searching different forums for how to get a better driver for my asus card. I could use a special version from another mainboard vendor. Install this. Replace with a file from my original audio driver pack. Replace a WinXP system file with SP1 version. And with this. All menus are working perfectly and I navigating is smooth. Only one problem left!

Pause makes the movie to freeze and it can not be resumed. (When using remote). Pressing space on keyboard worked like a charm. So I removed the "pause" mapping in mediaportal x10 settings. I mapped the remotes original software with nothing on all keys except pause which I mapped to keypress "space". Now I have all the functionality that mediaportals x10 gives me and pause is also working!

This is totally crazy but it works! :)
I think. I have not tested it fully yet.
